Seeing that surveillance video filled me with confusion. If the video was real, it proved that my brother had indeed taken a girl to the reservoir, and that they both fell into the water. These two thoughts echoed in my mind, leaving me in a state of turmoil. But soon, I remembered something my brother had once told me. He said he had a girlfriend but was worried we wouldn't accept it, so he kept it a secret. Could it be true?
But if he really did have a girlfriend, why didn't he tell me or Grandpa? Why sneak around to meet her? And why did the girl sneak out at night only to end up in the reservoir? What secrets lay hidden behind all of this?
I pondered for a long time but couldn't find an answer. One thing I was certain of was that my brother would never commit suicide without reason. There had to be more to this story.
With that thought, I made up my mind. "I'm going to report this!"
"Report it?" The middle-aged woman scoffed. "Your brother killed my daughter, and you still want to call the police?"
I stared intently at the middle-aged woman.
"You think my daughter sneaked out on her own and fell into the reservoir? What does that have to do with my brother?"
"If it weren't for your brother deceiving my daughter, she wouldn't have fallen into the reservoir!" The middle-aged woman said coldly.
"I'll tell you this: if you don't take responsibility and get my daughter out, I'll accuse your brother of rape and murder!"
"You!" I trembled with anger; this was clearly extortion!
Grandpa sighed and shook his head. "Forget it. A person who has died cannot come back to life. It's better to let the deceased rest in peace."
"No way!" The middle-aged woman suddenly screamed. "My daughter can't just die for nothing!"
"Unless you take responsibility and get my daughter out, and pay me 500,000!"
"500,000? Why don't you go rob a bank?" I shouted angrily.
Upon hearing this, the middle-aged woman immediately reported a Birth Date and Time.
After Grandpa noted down the Birth Date and Time, he took out his phone to start the transfer.
"Wait!" Just before the transfer, Grandpa seemed to remember something and suddenly shouted. "I can only gather up to 300,000 at most; I don't have more."
"Fine, 300,000 it is!" The middle-aged woman nodded immediately.
"Hurry up and give me the money!"
"Don't rush. We need to write a receipt, sign it, and you need to tell me your daughter's Birth Date and Time. I'll get the money for you right away!"
The woman thought for a moment and said, "Alright!"
With that, they signed the agreement and pressed their fingerprints, indicating that they would no longer pursue the matter.
Grandpa sighed and began dialing every person he could think of to borrow money.
After a solid half hour, he finally managed to gather two hundred thousand.
Once the money was transferred, the middle-aged woman turned on her heel with Sunglasses Man and the others, ready to leave.
Before she walked away, she shot us a fierce glare.
"Hurry up and get my daughter out of there, or I'll be back."
"Wait, give me their photos and the video from just now," I called out to the middle-aged woman.
She paused for a moment, then pulled out her phone and sent me a video along with several photos.
In the pictures were my brother and that girl together.
They were closely nestled against each other, their faces lit up with happy smiles.
I stared blankly at the photos in my hand, my mind a complete void.
I had never imagined that my brother actually had a girlfriend.
I shook my head, trying to push those thoughts out of my mind.
What mattered most now was figuring out the cause of my brother's death.
With that in mind, I immediately opened the surveillance video.
I watched it carefully several times but still couldn't find any useful clues.
