Ye Chenfeng thought Shen Binghan had lost his mind for daring to provoke the stunning beauty dressed in a midriff-baring outfit.
However, what happened next left him utterly perplexed.
Not only did the beauty not scold him, but she also generously ordered a table full of delicious snacks for Shen Binghan.
With so much food, Shen Binghan couldn't finish it alone and had to enlist Ye Chenfeng's help to devour it all.
During the meal, Ye Chenfeng curiously asked Shen Binghan how he managed to charm the beauty into willingly offering him food.
Shen Binghan let out a satisfied burp, wiped his mouth with a napkin, and calmly explained, "When Beautiful Sister came in, there was a Beggar Ghost following her. I shouted loudly, and the Beggar Ghost was too scared to move. But unexpectedly, Beautiful Sister, despite her appearance, had no manners and cursed at me. In my anger, I decided to have the Beggar Ghost tease her a bit."
Beggar Ghost! Ye Chenfeng laughed uncontrollably. It was no wonder the beauty fell for it; he wouldn't believe in any Beggar Ghost either.
Shen Binghan remained serious and said, "He's right behind you, waiting for my charity."
Upon hearing this, Ye Chenfeng scoffed dismissively and replied, "If he's behind me, let him show himself so I can see what kind of ghost he is."
Before Ye Chenfeng could finish his sentence, a cold presence as swift as a snake slithered up from the back of his neck to his face, instantly blinding him—he could see no one else in the Snack Shop; it was just him alone. Little Monk and Shen Binghan had vanished.
Ye Chenfeng felt an overwhelming fear and couldn't help but shout, "Shen Binghan, where are you?"
Clearly, his shout attracted a lot of attention; many people turned to look at him in unison.
Seeing this, Shen Binghan shouted back, "Get lost."
In an instant, a pair of pale blue claws withdrew from Ye Chenfeng's eyes.
Suddenly, Ye Chenfeng could see Shen Binghan again; he was sitting across from him with a smile on his face. Ye Chenfeng found the earlier incident truly bizarre but didn't dare voice his thoughts. Instead, he hurriedly ate a few bites and urged Shen Binghan to leave.
Shen Binghan and Ye Chenfeng left, turning to the Beggar Ghost who was lingering nearby. "Eat, but don't cause any trouble for me, or I'll take you in," he said, slapping a particularly ugly gourd hanging from his waist.
Ye Chenfeng hadn't noticed the unsightly gourd at Shen Binghan's waist. However, he understood that it was best not to ask too many questions about what had just been said. After they had walked quite a distance, he finally mustered the courage to ask, "That was really strange, it felt like my eyes were covered by an invisible hand."
"The Beggar Ghost covered your eyes."
"Why me?" Ye Chenfeng protested.
"Because you didn't believe it; you insisted on seeing what a ghost looks like."
"Fine!" Ye Chenfeng looked up at the darkening sky; going home was out of the question now, and he was out of money. It seemed that tonight they would have to squat by the street or find a place under the Street Tree to spend the night.
At home, he was cherished; at Grandma's House, he was still valued. But he had never felt so destitute as he did now. This was his first time wandering outside without even a place to stay.
Shen Binghan, on the other hand, appeared relaxed and content, puffing out his round belly as he walked and admired the night scenery. He clicked his tongue in amazement at how many people there were and how much better the view was compared to the mountains. He enjoyed watching both the nightscape and the women.
A woman in hot pants with a curvy figure brushed past him, and his eyes followed her until she was far out of sight.
Ye Chenfeng thought of Shen Binghan as nothing more than a gluttonous monk with an eye for food.
Seeing Ye Chenfeng's distressed expression as they continued walking without stopping made Shen Binghan anxious.
"You little brat! Didn't you say there are plenty of your father's friends around here? Why haven't we arrived yet?"
Ye Chenfeng cursed inwardly: foolish monk, you actually believed my lie. He stammered while pointing ahead, "Up ahead, we’re almost there."
Ahead stood a luxurious Four-Star Hotel.
Shen Binghan's eyes lit up. "Hey! This kid is generous; tonight I can take a nice bath and sleep comfortably."
Ye Chenfeng couldn't understand why Shen Binghan was so happy. Seeing the spring-like smile on his face, he felt an urge to curse under his breath.
After walking for a while, Ye Chenfeng did not stop.
Shen Binghan, feeling displeased, sat down on the marble steps, refusing to move. Ye Chenfeng was baffled, unsure of what Little Monk was up to.
As they stood there—one sitting on the steps and the other standing below—a car suddenly pulled up. A valet in a uniform approached with a smile, opened the door, and bowed to welcome a couple stepping out of the vehicle. Afterward, he drove the car away to the garage. Shen Binghan watched the woman and then the man.
Without thinking, he stood up and followed them.
Ye Chenfeng panicked. He knew that staying at a Four-Star Hotel cost hundreds for a night; it wasn't as if he could sell himself to afford it! Shen Binghan truly was foolish, coming from the mountains and still wanting to stay at a Four-Star Hotel!
He hurriedly caught up with Shen Binghan and grabbed his arm.
Shen Binghan looked serious and lowered his voice. "Don't interfere with my ghost hunting."
"Ghost? Where's the ghost?"
Shen Binghan smirked slightly. "If you want to see it, then if you look at him, he can see you too. He'll haunt you. Are you scared?"
"Then I won't look." Ye Chenfeng had no choice but to follow Shen Binghan as he tried to catch ghosts. However, they were unexpectedly stopped at the entrance by a beautiful waitress dressed in a silk cheongsam with light makeup.
"You two need to leave; this isn't a place for you to play."
"Beautiful Sister, we're not here to play; I'm here for him." Shen Binghan pointed toward the couple who had just entered.
The waitress glanced at the couple who had already gone inside, raised an eyebrow, and hesitated for a moment before asking, "Are you... related to them?" Her implication was that they were family members of the couple.
Ye Chenfeng looked at Shen Binghan, who returned the gaze and nodded in agreement.
"Then you need to let him check in again. I've never heard of four people sharing one room."
"Alright, alright." This time it was Ye Chenfeng who agreed, gently pushing Shen Binghan forward.
Entering the Four-Star Hotel was an eye-opener for Ye Chenfeng, but for Shen Binghan, it was like Liu Laolao stepping into the Grand View Garden—everything was astonishing. Everything felt fresh and new, especially the giant crystal chandelier overhead that dazzled his eyes.
The two of them wandered through the lobby, stopping occasionally before making their way to the guest room area. The soft lighting, warm atmosphere, and faint fragrance were intoxicating.
But then came the problem: with so many rooms, where was the ghost Shen Binghan mentioned? The couple had already rushed into a room and might be tangled up together by now.
Ye Chenfeng felt like he was all in. If Shen Binghan couldn't catch the ghost and they were discovered by the hotel staff, they would have no choice but to accept their fate—no money and possibly their lives at stake.
After walking for a while, Ye Chenfeng's head began to spin.
Every room looked exactly the same; even the decorations outside each door were identical.
Besides, they were just wandering aimlessly—who knew what room number that couple had?
Not knowing was like being blindfolded in circles, and they would eventually be caught by the staff.
"How about we just go to the front desk and admit our mistake? Let's get out of here!"
Ye Chenfeng felt uncertain as he spoke to Monet about Shen Binghan.
"Isn't this hotel owned by your dad's friend?"
"Who told you this is my dad's friend's place?" Ye Chenfeng nearly cried out. If his dad had a friend who owned the Four-Star Hotel, would he still be here anxiously playing hide-and-seek?
"You said at the station that your dad has many friends doing business here. Just now, I asked you, and you pointed out that this hotel is run by one of your dad's friends, right?"
"From the looks of it, you're either here to catch ghosts or just want to take advantage of staying in a free hotel," Ye Chenfeng snapped, raising his voice in anger.
Shen Binghan was equally defiant, sulking in the corner by the wall. "Fine, I'll just stay here tonight."
"If you stay here, I'm leaving," Ye Chenfeng said with a long face, stomping his foot in frustration as he strode out.
Perhaps hearing the commotion, not far from where Shen Binghan was squatting, a door suddenly opened. A person peeked out cautiously. Upon seeing him, they quickly withdrew their head, and just as the door was about to close, a foot got caught in it. Upon closer inspection, it was a monk dressed in gray robes.
"Little Monk, you've got the guts to beg for alms at a hotel," the man said, gesturing for him to pull his foot back.
It was indeed Shen Binghan who was stuck at the door. Without saying a word, he raised his hand and pointed inside, bowing slightly. "Amitabha, benefactor, you are facing great calamity; Little Monk dares to come and help you resolve it."
"What calamity? Get lost!" The man glared angrily and forcefully shut the door.
Shen Binghan shook his head and sighed. "Seeking death with no remedy."
As Ye Chenfeng stepped outside, he found the attendant waiting at the door. Noticing that one person was missing, the attendant was about to ask what happened when Shen Binghan emerged.
The two walked toward the exit in unison.
The attendant was baffled, unsure of what these two kids were up to! Seeing them both looking rather unhappy, he figured they must have been scolded by someone.
"Kids these days really have no sense; spying on adults..."
Ye Chenfeng walked alongside Shen Binghan and ignored the attendant's comment. He turned to Shen Binghan and asked, "Did you find them?"
"I did," Shen Binghan replied as he stopped and looked up at the highest floor.
As he looked up, a white figure fell from the top of the tall building. It got closer and closer, revealing that it was not just a white shadow, but a naked man plummeting down like a leaf in a hurry.
Seeing the speed of the descent quicken, Shen Binghan grabbed Ye Chenfeng and they sprinted several dozen meters away. Just as they stopped, a loud crash echoed behind them, followed by someone exclaiming, "Someone has fallen from the building."
The person who fell was the man who had entered the hotel just a few minutes earlier.
He was also the one who had insulted Shen Binghan.
The hotel immediately called the police and detained the suspect.
Shen Binghan and Ye Chenfeng had already left the Four-Star Hotel.
"Did you see that person behind them?"
"Yeah."
"What did she look like?"
"She had a long tongue, bulging eyes, and was covered in blood, looking like she had died a tragic death."
Upon hearing Shen Binghan's description, Ye Chenfeng shivered, feeling an icy chill run down his spine. He suddenly recalled the dreams he had at Grandma's House and wondered if Little Monk could handle that man-eating water ghost.
