Li Lin fixed his gaze on the dilapidated truck, his mind racing with escape plans.
"Liya, can you fix that truck?"
Liya quickly glanced at the vehicle and nodded. "Give me five minutes."
Li Lin remained vigilant, scanning the surroundings as the sound of approaching raiders grew louder.
Liya deftly climbed into the driver's seat and began her repairs.
Li Lin looked down at Xiao Xing in his arms; it was still asleep, the blue glow completely faded.
A sharp whistle echoed from a distance, tightening Li Lin's chest.
"They're calling for backup. We need to hurry."
Liya replied without looking up, "Just give me two more minutes."
Li Lin gripped his gun tightly, ready for any sudden developments.
A minute later, the truck's engine roared to life.
"Done!" Liya exhaled in relief.
Li Lin quickly jumped into the driver's seat. "I'll drive; you take care of Xiao Xing."
Liya took Xiao Xing from him and settled into the passenger seat.
Li Lin slammed the accelerator, and the truck burst out of the factory.
Behind them came a barrage of gunfire, bullets striking the vehicle with a piercing sound.
"Get down!" Li Lin shouted, simultaneously yanking the steering wheel.
The truck swerved left and right through the ruins, cold sweat beading on Li Lin's forehead.
"They're catching up!" Liya glanced back, her face pale.
Li Lin gritted his teeth. "Hold on tight!"
The truck barreled into a narrow alley, the walls on either side nearly brushing against its sides.
The pursuers were momentarily shaken off at a distance.
"Where are we going?" Liya asked.
Li Lin took a deep breath. "To the Beast Federation's base; that's our only hope."
The truck burst out of the alley and into an open area.
Suddenly, an armored vehicle charged in from the side, heading straight for them.
"Watch out!" Liya screamed.
The armored vehicle crashed heavily into the side of the truck, leaving no time for Li Lin to dodge.
The truck lost control, skidding before finally tipping over on the roadside.
Dazed and disoriented, Li Lin crawled out of the driver's seat, his body aching all over.
"Liya? Xiao Xing?" he called out anxiously.
Liya climbed out from the passenger seat, tightly holding Xiao Xing in her arms. "We're okay."
The armored vehicle came to a stop nearby, and several fully armed individuals jumped down from it.
Li Lin raised his gun, ready to fight to the death.
"Stop! We are members of the Beast Federation!" the leader shouted.
Li Lin froze. "You are..."
"I am Alpha, the leader of the Beast Federation," the man said as he removed his helmet, revealing a weathered face.
Only then did Li Lin relax and lower his gun.
"How did you find us?" Liya asked.
Alpha smiled slightly. "Royce sent us a distress signal."
Li Lin's heart skipped a beat. "Royce...?"
"He’s fine; we’ve already rescued him," Alpha said. "Now, let's go. It's not safe here."
Li Lin exchanged a glance with Liya and nodded.
They boarded the armored vehicle and left the dangerous area behind.
Inside the vehicle, Alpha's expression was serious. "The situation is worse than we imagined."
"What do you mean?" Li Lin frowned.
"The raiders are just the tip of the iceberg," Alpha sighed. "A larger force has set its sights on the Starwing Beast."
Li Lin's heart tightened. "Who?"
Alpha shook his head. "You'll find out when we reach the base."
The armored vehicle entered a concealed underground passage.
After a series of complex security checks, they arrived at a vast underground space.
Li Lin looked around in astonishment at the advanced equipment and busy staff. "This place..."
"Welcome to the secret base of the Beast Federation," Alpha said.
A woman in a white lab coat hurried over. "Alpha, have they arrived?"
"Yes, Dr. Bella," Alpha nodded. "This is Li Lin, and this is Starwing Beast."
Dr. Bella's gaze immediately fell on Xiao Xing. "Great, come with me!"
Li Lin took a cautious step back. "What are you going to do?"
Dr. Bella explained, "Don't be nervous; I just need to perform a check-up on Starwing Beast."
Li Lin hesitated for a moment but eventually nodded in agreement.
They followed Dr. Bella into a well-equipped laboratory.
Xiao Xing was placed on a specialized examination table, and various instruments began to operate.
Li Lin anxiously watched the data flickering on the screen. "Is it okay?"
Dr. Bella furrowed her brow. "The situation... is quite special."
"What’s wrong?" Liya asked.
Dr. Bella pointed at the screen. "Look here, there’s a unique energy within Starwing Beast."
"Is it the blue light it released earlier?" Li Lin inquired.
Dr. Bella nodded, "That's right, but more importantly..." She suddenly turned to Li Lin, "Can you place your hand on this sensor?"
Li Lin complied.
New data immediately appeared on the screen.
Dr. Bella exclaimed, "Just as I thought!"
"What is it?" Li Lin asked, confused.
Dr. Bella said excitedly, "You have the same energy fluctuations within you!"
Li Lin was stunned. "What... what does that mean?"
Alpha said seriously, "It seems that your connection with the Starwing Beast is deeper than we imagined."
Just then, a series of urgent alarms blared.
"What’s happening?" Alpha asked immediately.
A staff member rushed in, "It's bad! Someone has breached the base!"
Alpha's expression changed dramatically. "How is that possible? The defense system here..."
Before he could finish his sentence, the laboratory door was suddenly blown open.
A group of fully armed individuals burst into the room.
"Don't move!" the leader shouted, "Hand over the Starwing Beast!"
Li Lin recognized that voice; it was the Raider Leader who had chased them earlier.
Alpha roared, "How did you find this place?"
The Raider Leader sneered, "Did you think you were the only ones with advanced technology?"
Li Lin positioned himself protectively in front of Xiao Xing. "You won't take it!"
The Raider Leader raised his gun. "Then don't blame me for being rude."
At that critical moment, Xiao Xing suddenly opened its eyes.
A dazzling blue light erupted from it, instantly enveloping the entire room.
Everyone was stunned by the sudden brilliance.
Li Lin felt a warm energy flow through him, as if he was connected to Xiao Xing's thoughts.
He looked at the raiders, determination shining in his eyes. "Now, it's our turn to fight back."
