Li Lin shielded Liya and Xiao Xing as they quickly left the battlefield. The dust settled slowly behind them, concealing the traces of the fierce clash that had just occurred. The twilight sun filtered through the heavy clouds, casting a dark red hue over the desolate wasteland.
"We need to find a safe place quickly," Li Lin whispered, his eyes scanning the surroundings warily.
Liya nodded, gently stroking the weak Xiao Xing in her arms. "It needs to rest."
Just then, a deep rumble echoed from the horizon. Li Lin looked up to see a massive yellow vortex of dust approaching them.
"Damn it! A sandstorm!" Li Lin cursed. "We need to find cover fast!"
The three struggled against the howling wind, grains of sand slicing against their skin like blades. Li Lin used his body to protect Liya and Xiao Xing, squinting to search for possible shelter. Suddenly, Xiao Xing stirred in Liya's arms, emitting a faint cry.
"Li Lin, Xiao Xing seems to sense something!" Liya shouted.
Following Xiao Xing's direction, Li Lin caught a glimpse of a half-buried underground entrance. Without a second thought, they rushed toward it. Just as they squeezed into the entrance, the sandstorm engulfed everything behind them.
Inside the underground facility, it was dim and damp, with moss covering the walls. Li Lin cautiously surveyed the area, gripping a makeshift wooden stick tightly in his hand. Liya followed closely behind him, and although Xiao Xing remained weak, it seemed to have calmed down somewhat.
"Is anyone there?" Li Lin called out, his voice echoing in the vast underground space.
There was no response. Just as they prepared to explore further, an elderly voice suddenly rang out. "How did you find this place?"
Li Lin quickly turned around, positioning Liya behind him. An old man with white hair emerged from the shadows, his gaze immediately locking onto Xiao Xing.
"Is that... the Starwing Beast?" the old man exclaimed, disbelief flashing in his eyes.
Li Lin frowned. "Who are you? How do you know about the Starwing Beast?"
The old man introduced himself, "I am Alfred, a scholar of the wasteland." His gaze remained fixed on Xiao Xing. "I have studied the Starwing Beast for decades, but I never imagined I would see one in person."
Liya asked curiously, "Can you tell us more about the Starwing Beast?"
Alfred nodded, inviting them to follow him deeper into the Underground Facility. Li Lin was cautious, but curiosity ultimately overcame his doubts. They entered a room filled with various instruments and ancient scrolls.
"The Starwing Beast is a miracle from ancient times," Alfred began to explain. "Legend has it that they possess the ability to purify radiation and restore ecosystems; they are key to saving the wasteland."
Li Lin and Liya listened intently, while Xiao Xing trembled slightly in Liya's arms, emitting a faint blue glow.
"But the number of Starwing Beasts is extremely low, and they are easily threatened," Alfred continued. "The one you hold may be our last hope."
A heavy sense of responsibility surged within Li Lin as he looked down at Xiao Xing, murmuring to himself, "So that's why those people are chasing us."
Suddenly, Alfred stepped closer, an enigmatic light flickering in his eyes. "I can help you understand and nurture its abilities."
Li Lin instinctively took a step back, shielding Xiao Xing behind him. "Why do you want to help us?"
Alfred smiled wryly. "Because this is my lifelong pursuit and the only hope for saving the wasteland."
At that moment, Xiao Xing let out a sharp cry. Its body suddenly radiated light, and blue energy waves swept through the entire room. Li Lin and Liya stared in astonishment at the scene, while an elusive expression crossed Alfred's face.
"It... it's responding to the legend," Alfred whispered. "We must act quickly."
Li Lin frowned, "What do you mean?"
Alfred took a deep breath. "It's not safe here. We need to go to a place called 'Nameless Land.' There are more secrets about the Starwing Beast and the future of the wasteland hidden there."
Li Lin and Liya exchanged glances, filled with doubt and anticipation. They knew a greater adventure awaited them, but they had no choice.
"Alright," Li Lin finally said, "We'll follow you, but remember, if you have any ulterior motives..."
Alfred raised his hands. "I promise, I just want to help you."
Just as they were about to leave, the ground suddenly shook violently. Debris fell from the ceiling, and dust filled the room.
"Damn it!" Li Lin cursed. "Is it an earthquake?"
Alfred's face turned pale. "No, it's them... they've found us."
