Li Lin kept a close watch on the door, his heart tightening at Xiao Xing's whimper. "Liya, get ready to fight," he whispered, slowly drawing the dagger from his waist.
The door was suddenly kicked open, and three fully armed raiders burst in. "Search complete, report to the officer, there's no one here," the leader of the raiders said as he scanned the surroundings.
"Impossible!" a sharp female voice rang out. "The scent of that little beast is coming from here. Search thoroughly!"
Li Lin exchanged a glance with Liya; they both realized these people were after Xiao Xing. Xiao Xing seemed to sense the danger as well, snuggling tightly against Liya.
The footsteps grew closer, and Li Lin's fingers tightened around his weapon. He knew a fierce battle was inevitable.
"Officer, look at this!" one of the raiders suddenly exclaimed.
"This is... research data?" The woman referred to as the officer sounded surprised. "Take all of this! Since that little beast isn’t here, we’ll follow its scent and continue tracking."
Li Lin gritted his teeth; he understood this was the most dangerous moment. If they were discovered, they would face a brutal fight. If these people took the research data, they might lose their chance to uncover Xiao Xing's mysterious origins forever.
At that critical moment, Xiao Xing suddenly broke free from Liya's embrace and charged toward the raiders, letting out a sharp cry.
"There!" one of the raiders shouted.
Chaos erupted in an instant. Li Lin dashed out from cover, lunging at the nearest enemy. His dagger struck like lightning, hitting the raider's throat with deadly precision. The raider didn’t have time to scream before collapsing in a pool of blood.
Liya was not to be outdone; she grabbed a nearby iron pipe and swung it hard at another raider's head. There was a sickening crunch as he fell to the ground.
"Damn it!" the female officer cursed, pulling out a strange device aimed at Xiao Xing.
Li Lin's pupils constricted as he recognized it as a high-frequency sonic emitter capable of inflicting fatal harm on Xiao Xing. "Don't move!" he shouted fiercely while leaping toward the officer.
The two engaged in a fierce struggle; the officer's combat skills were clearly on par with Li Lin’s. She deftly dodged his attacks while trying to activate her device.
In that critical moment, Xiao Xing suddenly leaped up and bit down on the officer's wrist. She cried out in pain, dropping the device to the ground.
Seizing the opportunity, Li Lin delivered a powerful punch to the officer's temple. She staggered back and finally collapsed unconscious on the floor.
"Quick! We need to get out of here," Li Lin gasped as he hurriedly gathered up the scattered research data from the ground and pulled Liya and Xiao Xing out of the bunker.
The trio raced through the ruins as shouts echoed behind them; Li Lin knew they had alerted the entire Raiders Group.
"Li Lin, where should we go?" Liya panted breathlessly.
A determined glint flashed in Li Lin's eyes. "The black market; we need to go to the black market."
Liya was startled. "The black market? Isn't it very dangerous there?"
"We have no choice now," Li Lin gritted his teeth. "It's the only place where we can find weapons and information to fight against these people."
Xiao Xing seemed to sense its master's determination, letting out a low whimper as it stayed close to Li Lin.
The three of them, along with the beast, continued to weave through the ruins, the sounds of their pursuers gradually fading away. Li Lin knew this was just the calm before the storm; the real challenge awaited them.
As night fell, Li Lin led his squad to the entrance of the black market. He took a deep breath and looked at Liya and Xiao Xing. "Are you ready?"
Liya nodded firmly, and Xiao Xing let out a soft chirp.
Li Lin pushed open the rusted iron door, and the world of the black market unfolded before them. The air was thick with the scent of gunpowder and desire, every corner hiding both danger and opportunity.
What they didn't know was that this transaction would completely change their fate and reveal the true face of that mysterious organization.
