Li Lin carried Liya on his back, sprinting out of the underground space with Xiao Xing. Isaac's laughter gradually faded behind them.
They burst into the underground garage, where Spark was anxiously waiting. "The situation has changed," Li Lin panted. "The raiders' experiments are crazier than we imagined."
Spark replied in a low voice, "There's an abandoned underground passage we can use to escape, but the success rate is only thirty percent."
Li Lin clenched his fists, his gaze sweeping over his companions before settling on Xiao Xing. "Even if there's only a ten percent chance, we have to go for it."
They squeezed into the dark passage, with only Xiao Xing's faint glow guiding their way. Suddenly, commotion erupted ahead, and Spark warned quietly, "Be careful, there's an ambush!"
Bullets rained down like hail, and Li Lin lunged toward Liya, shouting, "Get down!"
Xiao Xing let out a sharp cry, its body bursting forth with dazzling light. The raiders screamed as they shielded their eyes.
"Now's our chance!" Spark detonated explosives, causing the passage to tremble and dust to swirl around them.
Li Lin grabbed Liya. "Run!" The squad took advantage of the chaos and dashed toward the exit.
Heavy footsteps echoed from the end of the passage; it was the raiders' heavy mechs.
"Damn it!" Li Lin cursed. "Spark, do you have any explosives left?"
Spark shook his head. "We're out."
Despair washed over him like a tide. Li Lin closed his eyes as countless images flashed through his mind.
"No!" He opened his eyes wide. "I won't give up!"
Xiao Xing suddenly let out a long howl, its body swelling as it unleashed a powerful energy. A beam of light shot into the sky, destroying the mechs.
The Raiders scattered in all directions as Squad burst out of the passage. The sunlight pierced their eyes, and fresh air flooded their lungs.
"Impressive," a cold voice echoed, "you actually managed to escape."
Isaac stood not far away, a strange smile on his face. "The game has only just begun." He tossed a map towards them, marked with glaring red dots.
"Want to know where the energy supply point is? Go there for the answer," Isaac vanished into the dust.
Li Lin clenched his fists. "Let's go. It's time to end this."
In the early morning, Li Lin led Squad into Gray Territory—a ruinous forest shrouded in thick fog.
Xiao Xing suddenly became extremely restless, emitting a low whine as it tried to halt their advance.
"What's wrong, little one?" Li Lin crouched down to stroke its head.
Liya expressed her concern. "It's never acted like this before. Could there be danger?"
The newly joined wasteland explorer, Falcon, scanned the surroundings. "There's something off about the surface; we might be walking into an ambush."
Li Lin grew alert. "Stay vigilant and proceed with caution."
They cautiously navigated through the gray mist, the silence around them unnervingly oppressive.
Suddenly, Falcon whispered, "Wait!" He pointed to the ground. "Look at those tracks."
Li Lin observed carefully and noticed tiny metal fragments and traces of gears on the ground.
"There was mechanical activity here," Li Lin frowned, "it might be a trap."
Before he could finish his sentence, the ground suddenly collapsed. Instinctively, he grabbed Liya, but as the ground gave way beneath them, they both fell into a deep pit.
"Li Lin! Liya!" the Falcon shouted, but was blocked by a suddenly rising metal wall.
At the bottom of the pit, Li Lin shielded Liya and remained alert to their surroundings. In the darkness, the sound of machinery began to rise.
"Be careful!" Li Lin pulled Liya aside to avoid a laser that shot out unexpectedly.
Complex mechanisms activated, with laser nets, steel spikes, and poisonous gas attacking in succession. Drawing on his combat experience, Li Lin guided Liya through the traps.
"Over there!" He spotted a gap and pulled Liya toward it to escape the encirclement.
The two stumbled out of the trap area, gasping for breath.
"Are you okay?" Li Lin asked with concern.
Liya shook her head. "I'm fine, thanks to your quick reaction."
Li Lin sighed in relief but suddenly remembered, "Oh no, Xiao Xing and the others are still up there!"
Just as he was about to head back, Xiao Xing suddenly fell from above and landed in Li Lin's arms. It chirped joyfully as if showing off its abilities.
"You little rascal," Li Lin said with a mix of laughter and exasperation, "so you have some skills too."
The Falcon landed safely, exclaiming, "Impressive! This little guy can actually unlock mechanisms."
Li Lin pondered for a moment and asked, "Xiao Xing, did you sense something?"
Xiao Xing let out a soft chirp and suddenly jumped down to the ground. It closed its eyes, and its body began to emit a faint glow.
"Look!" Liya pointed at the ground. "Those patterns!"
A subtle light appeared on the surface, forming a complex energy circuit. Xiao Xing moved along the circuit, with the others following closely behind.
Ahead lay the ruins of an ancient structure, its stone walls covered in peculiar symbols. Li Lin examined them closely and was astonished to discover, "These symbols... are identical to the energy markings on Xiao Xing!"
Liya exclaimed excitedly, "Could this place be related to Xiao Xing's origins?"
Just as Li Lin was about to respond, Xiao Xing suddenly emitted a warning cry. From a distance came the sound of footsteps, and a group of heavily armed raiders came into view.
"Damn it," Li Lin gritted his teeth. "It's an ambush!"
The Raider Leader sneered, "Li Lin, long time no see. This time, you won't escape."
Li Lin shielded Liya and Xiao Xing, his gaze sharp. "Then let's see you try!"
