In the southeastern corner of Nanyuan, far from the mainland, lies a desolate land, the perfect place for exiled criminals.
Those who are exiled are either heinous offenders or individuals deeply hated by those in power, sent to a place that even during amnesty, they would never think to return from. The fate of the prisoners on the island is of no concern to anyone.
Because of this, Xue Feifei, known as the Master of Ceremonies of Nanyuan, reigns supreme over the island. Anyone who comes here is already destined to die; what does it matter if she toys with them?
Xue Feifei often selects certain prisoners for her amusement, and everyone speculates whether the frail figure lying in the room will become the new favorite of the Master of Ceremonies.
"Why isn't he awake yet?" An impatient Xue Feifei furrowed her brows as she looked at the barely alive person on the bed.
It wasn't until Xiaobai slowly exhaled that a hint of joy appeared on her face. She leaped forward, "Awake? Why aren't you eating?"
As Xiaobai opened his eyes and saw her, he stubbornly closed them again. Though his voice was weak, each word carried an indescribable air: "Rough and coarse food is hardly fit for consumption."
"You..." She had thought he was simply seeking death, but it turned out to be this reason. Xue Feifei chuckled lightly and playfully patted his face. "Oh really? You still have standards? Do you know what your current status is?"
Suddenly, Xue Feifei grasped his chin, looking down at him coldly as she enunciated each word, "You are a treasonous rebel whom everyone wishes to see punished. Don't forget, you came to Penglai Guest to await death, not for a leisurely stroll."
Xiaobai opened his eyes and glared at her. However, his weakened state meant that this glare was more filled with resentment than intimidation, failing to faze the arrogant Xue Feifei.
She snorted disdainfully and said, "Do you know what it means to lie low and endure hardship? You should be grateful I haven't forced you to swallow bitter herbs; now drink this."
"Yes." A few attendants understood their roles well; one held a bowl of porridge while the others pinned him down on the bed and began to force-feed him.
Xue Feifei watched in frustration as Little Bai struggled, spilling more than half of the porridge that barely made it into his mouth.
With a fierce demeanor, she kicked a few servants aside and said, "Get lost! You can't even handle such a trivial matter."
Holding the bowl of porridge, she continued menacingly, "Do you want to die? Here, your life is in my hands, especially if you're someone I have my eye on."
A chilling smile spread across her face. "If you really want to die, I can help you with that. We have a type of small fish here; don't be fooled by its size. Its bite is no less fierce than that of a great white shark, and it won't kill you right away. Want to give it a try?"
Little Bai shivered, looking at her with a mix of belief and doubt.
Xue Feifei scooped up a spoonful of porridge and brought it to his lips, watching him leisurely. "Hmm?"
Little Bai's cracked lips trembled slightly as he forced himself to swallow a mouthful of porridge.
Xue Feifei couldn't help but sneer. Just as she was about to mock him further, she suddenly felt warmth on her face—Little Bai had spat the porridge all over her.
"You!" Xue Feifei jumped up angrily and slapped Little Bai twice. "In Jiangnan, people suffer from floods and live in misery. For the disaster victims, even a bite of white rice is a luxury. They can't rely on the incompetent court for relief funds; they have to survive on roots and tree bark."
She grabbed Little Bai by the collar, staring into his eyes. Lowering her voice deliberately, she enunciated each word, "Because they know who truly deserves to die!"
Her words pierced deep into his heart. Little Bai's dim eyes suddenly sparkled with understanding as their gazes locked. He felt that there was more meaning behind Xue Feifei's words.
Her exquisitely beautiful face was so close that he could see the concern in her eyes, making him unknowingly fall under her spell. He couldn't believe that Xue Feifei could be someone with such a violent nature.
Feeling the change in his gaze, Xue Feifei's face unexpectedly flushed. She tried to hide it by throwing Xiaobai onto the bed, her voice lacking the usual dominance due to embarrassment. "What are you staring at? Someone like you, a useless waste, would be better off dead."
Xiaobai's originally pale face was marked with two handprints, and a trickle of blood ran from the corner of his mouth. Yet, he seemed oblivious to the pain. His brows furrowed as he stared at Xue Feifei's retreating figure, lost in thought.
Before long, Liu He came running to report that the new Xiaobai not only ate the rice spilled on the bed but also asked if there were any steamed buns.
Xue Feifei, who had just been washing her face, immediately lifted her head. A smile unconsciously crept onto her lips before she quickly let it drop again. "Steamed buns? Check if there are any that have gone bad or moldy; throw a few to him."
"Got it!"
