The night falls like ink, heavy and enveloping, tightly wrapping the earth in its dark embrace, making the stars' light seem dim and lifeless. Lin Yuxin wanders alone on the desolate streets, like a lost boat adrift in a boundless ocean, drifting aimlessly. Her footsteps are as heavy as if burdened by a thousand pounds, her heart as lifeless as dead ashes, silent and hopeless.
Suddenly, a few sharp and piercing cat cries, like swords, pierce the silence of the night. The sound comes from a narrow and dark alley, hidden between two dilapidated buildings, where the dim light seems to be deeply swallowed by endless darkness.
Lin Yuxin walks towards the alley with trepidation, filled with curiosity and fear. The alley is overgrown with weeds, like a desolate jungle, with garbage and various debris piled up like mountains. She carefully treads the cluttered ground, as if afraid of waking sleeping ghosts, slowly approaching the source of the cat cries.
Under the dim yellow light, a small and adorable kitten is struggling in the garbage heap, seemingly caught by a piece of old wire mesh on its injured leg. When it locks eyes with Lin Yuxin, its round eyes immediately widen with fear, and its body trembles involuntarily. Lin Yuxin feels a strong sense of compassion in her heart and softly says, "Don't be afraid, I won't hurt you." She carefully removes the wire mesh and gently strokes the kitten's soft fur, as if whispering, "Are you lonely and lonely like me?" The kitten seems to sense her kindness, lets out a gentle meow, and then extends its small tongue to gently lick Lin Yuxin's hand.
A warm feeling spread in Lin Yuxin's heart. She smiled slightly, gently booped the kitten's nose, and softly said, "Little one, would you like to come home with me?" The kitten seemed to understand her words, lightly nuzzling Lin Yuxin's hand as if responding to her invitation.
Lin Yuxin walked out of the alley with the kitten, feeling a long-lost warmth in her heart. This injured little cat brought a rare comfort to her lonely soul.
However, the calm days did not last long. One night, Lin Yuxin had a strange dream. In the dream, the adorable kitten kept calling out to her, its eyes revealing a mysterious and urgent message. Lin Yuxin suddenly woke up from the nightmare, filled with confusion and a vague sense of unease.
The next morning, the sunlight streamed into the room through the curtains, bringing a hazy atmosphere. Lin Yuxin opened her eyes and was surprised to find that the little cat was nowhere to be seen! She anxiously searched everywhere but found no trace of the cat.
In the days that followed, Lin Yuxin was deeply puzzled. She couldn't understand why the cat had suddenly disappeared, and whether that strange dream really foretold something. She began to inquire everywhere, not letting go of any possible clues.
"What are you looking for?" Suddenly, a familiar voice sounded in her ear. Lin Yuxin looked up and saw the bartender she had encountered before.
It's a little cat," Lin Yuxin's voice carried a hint of choking, as if she was about to tell a story of abandonment, "When I found it in this corner, it was lonely, helpless, and one of its legs was injured."
The man's face showed a sympathetic expression, he listened earnestly, as if every word was hitting hard on his heart.
"I brought it home," she wiped the tears from her eyes, "I thought we could be each other's family. I never expected that one day, I woke up and it was suddenly gone."
He squatted down gently and locked eyes with Lin Yuxin. His gaze was deep, filled with understanding and support: "I believe it's trying to tell you something. Perhaps it wants you to find it."
A determination surged in Lin Yuxin's heart. She nodded vigorously, and tears welled up once again uncontrollably. The warm flow dispersed the fog in her heart, and she felt the courage to move forward once more.
"I'm willing to help you," the man's words were firm and resolute, "If it's sending you a signal, then I will search for the answers with you."
"Last time we found it over here," Lin Yuxin pointed to a pile of debris. The man handed her a flashlight, and they both bent down to search through the pile. The beam of the flashlight, like a torch of hope in the darkness, illuminated their hearts with hope.
The man knelt down, carefully examining every corner. "Where could it be hiding?" he pondered. The two of them slowly moved, step by step, searching for possible hiding places. Their meticulous search reflected their inner concern.
Lin Yuxin felt unwilling to give up the search, regretting not taking better care of the kitten, and filled with self-blame.
"I heard something...," the man suddenly stood still, his finger to his lips, signaling for Lin Yuxin not to make a sound. Lin Yuxin stopped in her tracks, and the two of them held their breath, listening intently to the faint sound.
Not far from them, behind the garbage bin, came the sound of "meowing," faint but clearly urgent and distressed.
"It's him!" Lin Yuxin cried tears of joy, and she ran over, not even caring as her coat brushed past the garbage bin.
Next to the garbage bin, a shiny black cat was panting lightly, curled up into a ball. When it saw someone approaching, its small eyes showed a sense of caution. Lin Yuxin squatted down and cautiously reached out a hand. The little cat first looked around, then perhaps recognized Lin Yuxin, and its eyes showed a glimmer of trust. The man also approached gently, comforting the back of Lin Yuxin's hand, and they waited together for the little cat to relax.
Until the kitten slowly approached, Lin Yuxin felt the warmth of its fur, and her anxious heart finally settled. She gently held the kitten in her arms, as if it were a precious treasure.
As they returned to the street, the soft streetlights illuminated their way home. Lin Yuxin hummed a lullaby as she walked, lost in thought.
"You are a good person, helping me find the kitten," Lin Yuxin said, holding the kitten tightly, tears of gratitude in her eyes.
