As she stepped out of the General's residence, she saw Yu Liuguang leaning against the wall of Luo Mansion, dressed in white like snow, his appearance as exquisite as jade. Fu Guang recalled that he once claimed to be the most beautiful person in America, yet she had hardly ever looked at him directly.
"What are you staring at? He just forgot for a moment. I am the unique and unparalleled Corpse Flower of wisdom and beauty in the underworld. There's no way I can't handle him; Xue Ming dotes on me the most..."
Before she could finish her thought, Yu Liuguang pulled her into his embrace. "Crying makes you look terrible. For the sake of the citizens of Kingdom Jiang, I suppose I can sacrifice a little."
He held her more gently. "So what if he forgot? What's the big deal? Do you really like him that much? Hmph! Fine, I'll help you one last time."
Luo Mansion was festooned with lights and filled with joy.
Today was the wedding day of the General Xue Ming, and guests were arriving in waves to present gifts at Luo Mansion, with delightful songs and dances embellishing the banquet.
Fu Guang nervously clutched her dance attire. Yu Liuguang smiled at her with his Jade Flute, captivating everyone around.
Fu Guang began to suspect this was a trap.
Mainly because Yu Liuguang had suddenly said that her Corpse Flower dance could help Xue Ming remember their past, which made her feel quite unreal. So, Fu Guang bit down on his hand to leave a mark as confirmation.
Yu Liuguang had been sulking for days, using a strike as leverage to force her to massage his shoulders.
Please, that was clearly an old lady's specialty! Did he really have to humiliate himself just to mess with her?
Just then, a high-pitched and clear flute sound stunned the entire venue.
Fu Guang took a deep breath and gracefully stepped onto the stage!
The music was strange, seemingly infused with a power not belonging to this world. The strength within the flute notes felt familiar to Fu Guang; it seemed she had practiced it many years ago. Suddenly, a voice popped into her mind.
Bridge of Helplessness, Forget River Water.
The enchanting Corpse Flowers blanketed both banks, and a spiritual Ming Die rested on a petal, helplessly scolding her: " Fu Guang, you sneaky girl! You went and learned that spell again. How many times do I have to tell you? This spell allows people to see their past lives; using it carelessly will bring divine retribution!"
Fu Guang stumbled in her dance steps but then saw Xue Ming standing up and walking towards her with surprise.
" Fu Guang, you silly girl! Why did you come over? I really can't do anything with you."
Fu Guang stared blankly at Xue Ming.
Wang Chuan had clearly said that as long as she resolved her emotional ties, she could return immediately. So why was she still standing here? Even stranger was—
That voice was definitely not Xue Ming's.
She was pulled into a familiar embrace. She didn’t dare to look up; the strong smell of blood still lingered at the tip of her nose.
“Is this how you repay kindness? Not speaking means you don’t recognize me?”
Fu Guang choked back a sob and slowly tightened her hold on Yu Liuguang. It felt like she had missed something important, but she truly couldn’t remember what it was.
Yu Liuguang’s wounds were gruesome. She gently caressed them, tears falling drop by drop, washing away the blood to reveal two faint characters— Fu Guang.
Yu Liuguang covered her eyes and said softly, “Don’t look!”
Fu Guang ’s tears flowed even more fiercely.
The sounds of battle grew closer. Just as an arrow flew toward Fu Guang, Yu Liuguang rolled over to shield her.
Fu Guang gasped in surprise, their lips meeting.
In that moment, it seemed like she remembered something.
“Boom!” A thunderclap echoed just in time.
Fu Guang ’s heart raced.
The audience erupted into chaos as someone shouted, “Xue Ming has rebelled! Capture the traitor!” Unable to contain herself, Xue Ming released Fu Guang and charged back with her subordinates.
Fu Guang crouched down, holding her head in a daze. The truth seemed to be right in front of her, yet she was too afraid to uncover it.
Arrows whizzed dangerously close to her skin. Her arm tightened; at the Wang Chuan ferry, those who came for reincarnation formed a long line. Fu Guang had just crossed the tribulation and after drinking Lady Meng Soup could officially become a spirit of the underworld.
Meng Po had already called out her name, but she lingered beside Yu Liuguang, reluctant to leave. “Liuguang, I don’t want to part with you. Is it really impossible not to drink Lady Meng Soup?”
The young man in white focused intently on writing in her palm: “Of course it’s impossible. Remember this: you must wait for the seventh person behind you to leave together. Besides, I’ve carved your name into my heart, so I will never forget you!”
“ Fu Guang!” Meng Po called her name for the third time, sounding somewhat annoyed. Fu Guang hurriedly responded and stepped into the grass hut draped with black curtains.
A bowl of Lady Meng Soup slowly drained her memories away.
Fu Guang was brought to the bridge, staring blankly at the "seven" etched in her palm.
This must be something very important, right? Seven? Does it mean the seventh person?
"Other Shore Flower Spirit?" A warm and melodious laughter rang in her ears.
Fu Guang paused for a moment before recalling Meng Po's words. She was the Other Shore Flower Spirit of the Underworld, named Fu Guang. When she looked up, she saw a strong and handsome man with gentle, friendly eyes that exuded a sense of trustworthiness.
"I've seen you standing here for quite a while. Are you lost? I'm Xue Ming, the Guardian of Flowers in the Underworld. Let me take you there."
"I..." She hesitated as she looked at the "seven" in her palm.
Xue Ming leaned closer and smiled, "What a confused girl you are! Meng Po mentioned placing you in the Seventh District, which happens to be where I live. Don't worry, I'll protect you from now on."
He ruffled her hair and took her hand.
The man before her was so gentle; holding his hand seemed to calm Fu Guang's wandering heart. So she automatically ignored the slightly bewildered call of " Fu Guang " behind her and followed Xue Ming down the Bridge of Helplessness.
When they meet again, they would not recognize each other, after a thousand years.
