On that day, while working, Old Nie suddenly received devastating news: his wife and son had been in a car accident.
However, when Old Nie anxiously rushed to the hospital, not only had his wife already passed away, but his beloved son also took his last breath right before him. Old Nie broke down and cried uncontrollably.
Just then, a sudden clap of thunder echoed outside, and to his astonishment, his son, who had seemingly died, opened his eyes and came back to life.
Though Old Nie found it hard to believe, he was relieved that he had not lost his lineage; unfortunately, his wife would remain forever separated from him.
What Old Nie never expected was that his son had brought back a finger of his mother.
Just yesterday, Xiao Shuai had found a lizard's severed tail in the yard, which had survived after being shed.
Xiao Shuai asked his father if a lizard could live after losing its tail.
Old Nie replied that of course it could; its tail would grow back. However, this answer sparked further curiosity in Xiao Shuai, who continued to ask, “Will the tail grow back into a complete lizard?”
Being a child with an innocent mind, Old Nie jokingly responded that it certainly could and even made up a whimsical spell on the spot to make his son laugh.
Little did Old Nie know that after Xiao Shuai recited the spell all morning long, the buried tail truly grew into a brand new lizard.
Having learned from this experience, after his mother’s death, Xiao Shuai took one of her severed fingers from the hospital and buried it in the yard. He believed that as long as he continued to recite the spell, his mother would surely come back just like the lizard.
Watching his son miss his mother so dearly filled Old Nie's heart with unbearable pain.
Little did she know, it was her son's naive actions that would give birth to a terrifying demon.
At her wife's funeral, a Miss Huizi came to pay her respects. However, when she saw Old Nie's wife's portrait, an inexplicable sense of fear washed over her.
As Huizi was about to leave, she inadvertently caught sight of Xiao Shuai sitting alone in the corner. She intended to offer him some comfort, but to her surprise, Xiao Shuai shot her a look filled with hatred.
This reminded Huizi of events from seven years ago. She and Old Nie had been colleagues at a media company. With his striking good looks, he attracted admirers from Japan to France, and Huizi was no exception; she had always harbored feelings for him.
One night while working late, her boss took the opportunity to make an inappropriate advance. Huizi was immediately terrified.
Fortunately, at that critical moment, Old Nie noticed and intervened, stopping her boss. This heroic act only deepened Huizi's feelings for him.
Old Nie comforted the shaken Huizi in his embrace.
Just then, Old Nie's Wife called, and Huizi learned that he was a married man. Yet, her affection for Old Nie did not wane; little did she know this would lead to dire consequences for herself.
While Huizi was lost in her feelings and writing a love letter to Old Nie, she suddenly experienced a nosebleed. Before she could comprehend what was happening, she received a call from an unknown number. Strangely, the caller said nothing.
Assuming it was just another harassment call from her boss, she brushed it off. The next day, she planned to deliver a gift and her love letter to Old Nie. Just as she mustered the courage to speak, Old Nie's Wife called again, saying their child was about to be born and urging Old Nie to return home quickly.
Seeing the carefully chosen lighter for Old Nie go undelivered left Huizi feeling despondent.
Suddenly, her phone rang again; it was still that same unknown number from yesterday. But this time, the caller uttered a chilling phrase that sent shivers down Huizi's spine.
However, just as one wave settled, another rose.
After hanging up the phone, Huizi turned to look, and to her astonishment, a woman in white with long flowing hair appeared in the mirror. But when Huizi turned around, there was nothing there.
