Sophia Esteban turned her head and suddenly burst into laughter, the sound echoing ominously in the dimly lit church. Her laughter sent a chill down Erin and Lisa's spines, causing a shiver to creep into Erin's heart.
"The Three Wise Ones, one will become nourishment, one will become the flower's heart, and one will become the pollen. The Trinity will fully manifest the power of will..." Sophia Esteban spoke slowly, her voice deep and authoritative, as if announcing some ancient prophecy. "You have already embarked on the path of destiny, both of you."
Her gaze fixed intently on the dark corner where Erin and Lisa were hiding, a hint of cold amusement glimmering in her eyes. Every movement of Sophia Esteban revealed that she was already aware of their presence, her smile radiating a unique confidence and sense of control.
"No need to hide any longer," Sophia Esteban gently waved her hand, as if beckoning them to reveal themselves. "Your fates have long been sealed; you are merely walking towards the inevitable conclusion now."
Erin and Lisa exchanged glances, realizing they could no longer remain concealed. They slowly stood up and stepped out of the shadows to face Sophia Esteban. Erin's heart was filled with wariness, but she fought to maintain her composure, trying to glean more information from Sophia Esteban's words.
"What are you talking about?" Erin asked coldly, determination shining in her eyes. "We will not be swayed by your temptations and lies."
Sophia Esteban shook her head gently, still wearing that eerie smile. "You are quite resilient, but that only makes this game more interesting. Your resistance will only make the outcome seem more inevitable."
She slowly approached Erin and Lisa, her feather quill gliding through the air as if weaving an invisible web. Her gaze held a profound insight, as if she could see deep into Erin and Lisa's hearts.
"The arrival of you Three Wise Ones is to fulfill our Great Achievement," Sophia Esteban continued. "The power of will shall be fully realized through your bodies. Nourishment, flower's heart, and pollen—none can be missing."
Her words carried an irresistible force, as if narrating an unchangeable fate. A chill crept up Erin's back, yet she maintained her steadfast gaze, unwilling to yield.
Sophia Esteban then chuckled softly and said, "Don't worry... I won't do anything to you; I'm not fond of those barbaric sacrifices. I'm simply... curious about everything that exists."
Erin and Lisa exchanged another glance, filled with caution and unease. Lisa couldn't help but say, "That doesn't mean you are..."
Sophia Esteban raised her hand with a smile, interrupting her: "The time of destiny has already set on its course; now it is my time as an observer. Please listen to my story, dear reporters..."
She let out a cold laugh, her gaze revealing a profound insight, as if she had already seen through their true identities. Erin and Lisa felt a chill run down their spines, realizing that the woman before them was far more terrifying than they had imagined.
"You think you can easily enter this town and uncover our secrets?" Sophia Esteban slowly approached them, her tone laced with sarcasm. "Your plan was doomed to fail from the very beginning."
Erin clenched her fists, striving to maintain her composure. "What do you want to tell us?"
Sophia Esteban stopped in front of them, her eyes turning icy. "I want to tell you that everything is not as simple as you think. This town has a long history, and that existence... we call it the Holy Angel, is the true source of power."
She gently waved her hand toward the notes and burning papers on the table. "These record our rituals, our beliefs, our awe and devotion to that existence. What you see is just the tip of the iceberg."
Erin and Lisa's eyes were filled with confusion and fear. Sophia Esteban continued, "I am not fond of those bloody rituals, but I am deeply curious about the power and wisdom of that existence. That is why I became Wisdom's Envoy, to study and explore this ancient knowledge."
Her tone softened, yet her gaze remained sharp. "Your arrival is part of a prophecy. You will be witnesses to all of this, as well as participants. I do not intend to stop you because the wheels of fate have already begun to turn, and they cannot be reversed."
Sophia Esteban looked at Lisa, her gaze suddenly falling on her abdomen, a slight smile curling at the corners of her mouth as she revealed a mysterious grin. "Yes... he is already prepared to descend... oh, Holy Mother..."
Lisa stared at Sophia Esteban, feeling an inexplicable sense of confusion. "What are you talking about?"
Sophia Esteban chuckled softly and pulled a pinhole camera from her pocket, handing it to Erin. "Mark, your martyr, willingly gave this up. He has comprehended all truths."
Erin looked at the camera in shock. She cautiously took it from Sophia Esteban's hands, watching her warily. "What do you want?"
Sophia Esteban replied gently, "Take it; do what you must. You came here seeking the truth, did you not? Inside lies the answers you need."
Erin tucked the camera against her chest, filled with doubt and unease. She did not know Sophia Esteban's true intentions, but she understood that this camera might contain crucial evidence.
Sophia Esteban suddenly burst into laughter, her voice echoing through the church with a mad frenzy. "Go record it! Write down everything about us and let the world see!"
Her laughter pierced through Erin and Lisa's ears like a knife, sending chills down their spines. Sophia Esteban's laughter was filled with madness, her eyes glinting with an unsettling light.
Erin looked at Sophia Esteban with disdain, anger boiling within her. "Damn it... you all really are insane! I can't take this place anymore!"
Upon hearing Erin's words, Sophia Esteban abruptly stopped laughing, her gaze turning cold. She pulled a gun from her waist, aiming it at Erin's head. It was the same gun she had acquired from customs in Spain; it seemed Mark had handed it over to Sophia Esteban as well.
Erin's heart raced as she stared at the gun in Sophia Esteban's hand, a chill creeping up her spine. She knew that Sophia Esteban was not joking; she was fully capable of pulling the trigger.
However, Sophia Esteban suddenly tossed the gun to Erin, the cold metal surprising her. Sophia then sat down on a wooden chair, the flames behind her growing fiercer, smoke beginning to fill the air.
"Get out! Hurry!" Sophia Esteban shouted, her voice resonating in the burning church. "Go witness it!"
She laughed heartily, her laughter mingling madness with a hint of sanity, as if everything was under her control.
Erin and Lisa exchanged glances, their eyes filled with shock and confusion. They looked at this crazy yet somewhat rational woman before them, unsure of what to say. Sophia Esteban's laughter rang like an alarm bell, reminding them that time was running out.
"Let's go!" Erin whispered to Lisa, determination swelling in her heart.
They quickly turned and ran toward the exit. The flames roared behind them, as if eager to consume everything in their path. They knew there was no time for hesitation; they had to escape this dangerous place swiftly.
