Li Mu moved silently behind a group of gang members engrossed in violent entertainment, like a flowing shadow. His footsteps were as light as a cat's, and his sharp eyes captured every detail. From his earlier observations, he had noticed that a certain room on the second floor seemed heavily guarded. Two burly men stood on either side of the door, their expressions stern and arms crossed over their chests, clearly prepared for any situation.
Li Mu pondered to himself that the unusual guarding of this room indicated it was likely used by the Blood Blade Sect to hide important items or secret information. For his current mission, such a room was precisely the breakthrough point he needed. Relying solely on the target location from the intel was insufficient; he required more concrete evidence and clearer information—and that room might just be where those answers were hidden.
However, Li Mu knew that a direct confrontation would not be wise. The two guards were muscular and armed, and any forced entry would alert all the gang members inside the factory. He quickly thought through his options and realized he needed to take a more discreet route. His gaze swept around until he noticed a nearby abandoned room with its door ajar, dim and cluttered inside, clearly a long-neglected storage space. With a swift motion, Li Mu slipped into the abandoned room and gently closed the door behind him.
The air inside was thick with the musty smell of decay, mingled with metallic and moldy odors. The floor was strewn with various debris—broken boxes, damaged wooden planks, and some shattered mechanical parts piled haphazardly together, as if it were a corner forgotten by time. This clutter provided him with excellent cover, allowing him to remain completely hidden in the shadows.
Li Mu's eyes scanned the room quickly until they landed on what he needed—a weathered window, its glass coated in dust and cracked with patches of cobwebs. He approached the window cautiously and carefully pushed it open; a cool night breeze filled with damp air rushed in. Outside lay a narrow ledge barely wide enough for a person to walk on. Li Mu assessed the ledge, mentally calculating the distance and angle; this route might allow him to bypass the guards and reach the room he wanted to enter.
Taking a deep breath to focus himself, he agilely turned his body sideways, stepping lightly onto the ledge while gripping the window frame for balance. The night wind brushed against his face, carrying a hint of chill that reminded him this path was not entirely safe. Nevertheless, his movements were steady and decisive as he balanced on the narrow ledge like a leopard prowling in the night. He carefully shifted his weight, lowering his center of gravity to avoid losing balance on this precarious path.
As Li Mu walked steadily along the narrow ledge, the wind howled around him—cold and fierce. Suddenly, a stronger gust hit him head-on, momentarily disrupting his balance; his body tilted slightly to one side as he nearly lost his footing. With sharp eyes, Li Mu inhaled deeply, quickly tightening his core muscles while gripping the rough protrusions of the wall with both hands. His fingertips pressed firmly against the surface as sharp edges grazed his skin, causing slight pain. Yet he paid no mind to it; all his strength focused on stabilizing himself.
The ledge was narrow and steep; any misstep could send him crashing down onto the hard ground below. Sounds from within the factory echoed up—shouts from crowds, raucous laughter, and occasional gunfire mixed together. These noises reverberated harshly in the night air, reminding Li Mu that he was not alone here; any slip could lead to dire consequences.
Once stabilized, Li Mu took another deep breath to steady his heartbeat before moving forward again. He kept his body close to the wall, distributing his weight across his hands and feet as each step was taken cautiously yet steadily. His gaze remained fixed on the target window ahead as he calculated distances in his mind; each step was precise and calm—he dared not relax for even a moment. As he drew closer to his goal, his eyes sharpened like blades, capturing any unusual detail.
Finally, he eased himself next to the window of the target room and paused to stabilize his position against the wall. The window was tightly shut; its old glass was covered in dust and streaks of water stains that suggested it hadn't been cleaned in ages. Li Mu tilted his head slightly and lowered himself to peer cautiously through the edge of the window.
The scene inside gradually came into view. Under dim yellow light, the room appeared sparsely furnished; yellowing maps and layout diagrams of the factory adorned its walls—clearly used by Blood Blade Sect for monitoring and managing this area. In the center stood an old set of surveillance monitors atop a table displaying images from various floors and sections of the factory, almost covering all major corridors and entrances within the building. The images on screen were blurry due to poor-quality equipment but faint outlines of people and scenes within could still be discerned.
Two men sat lazily in chairs before the monitors with their backs turned toward Li Mu's vantage point. Both were tall with muscular builds; their arms crossed over their chests as they occasionally glanced at the screens but appeared utterly indifferent—clearly not maintaining high vigilance. The man on the right had propped his legs up on the table while reclining lazily against his chair back, showing no real concern for what was displayed on screen. Meanwhile, the man on the left puffed away at a cigarette; thin wisps of smoke curled into the dim light creating an atmosphere thick with haze that enveloped the entire room in an eerie gloom.
Li Mu cautiously observed everything in the room, trying to let his gaze peek out just a corner from the edge of the window to avoid being detected by the two people inside. He calmly analyzed their alertness, quickly weighing the possibility of entering the room. At this moment, he knew well that these two individuals were core guards of the Blood Blade Sect, responsible for monitoring the entire factory's movements. If he could infiltrate and obtain surveillance footage, he would be able to grasp the distribution of all members within the factory, further ensuring the safety of his actions.
Li Mu furrowed his brow slightly; he had originally planned to gently pull open the window but immediately realized that such an action could lead to unnecessary trouble. The night wind was so strong that once the window was pushed open, it could easily make a noise due to the wind's force. Even if he managed to sneak in successfully, he might still expose his presence and attract the guards' attention inside.
He thought calmly, his gaze skimming over the glass of the window as a plan quickly flashed through his mind. Perhaps he could use a simpler method to lure the enemy and distract them. Taking a deep breath, he adjusted his breathing and gently pressed his fingers against the glass, using his wrist to lightly and accurately tap on the window.
"Thud!"
The crisp sound echoed softly under the cover of the night wind; it was not loud but sufficient to penetrate the glass and reach inside the room. After making the sound, Li Mu quickly withdrew his hand, pressing his body tightly against the wall, gripping the window ledge firmly with both hands while holding his breath. His ears caught subtle movements inside; he heard one of the guards seemingly affected by the noise, as the chair legs scraped slightly against the floor, indicating someone was getting up.
"What was that sound?" one of them asked in a low voice, tinged with impatience, as if thinking it was merely some trivial illusion.
"Probably just the wind; this place is full of strange noises," replied the other nonchalantly, his tone reflecting a sense of accustomed indifference.
Hearing this response, Li Mu's lips curled into a faint cold smile, his gaze sharp and icy. He clearly realized that this brief exchange indicated that neither guard had raised enough suspicion; they casually attributed the sound to external circumstances.
However, one of the guards still seemed somewhat uneasy as he stood up from his chair with hesitation and took a few steps toward the window. Li Mu remained calm, hiding in the shadows along the wall, his eyes fixed intently on the approaching man while maintaining steady and silent breaths. He knew he had successfully drawn their attention without making them overly vigilant; this fleeting curiosity was his opportunity.
Li Mu's hand quietly rested at his waist, ready to respond to any actions from them at any moment, his gaze sharp and focused as he awaited further reactions from the guard.
