"Doctor, is he going to die?"
I admit my tone was not very friendly, but I was truly exhausted by Ling Zhiya's condition. If he didn't pass away soon, I feared I would be worn out myself.
The doctor finished taking his pulse and slowly replied, "If only we had Tianshan Snow Lotus, there might still be a glimmer of hope. For now, I can only temporarily suppress the toxins in his body."
I knew well that the Tianshan Snow Lotus could cure all poisons. Such a rare treasure was either kept in the imperial palace or grew atop the towering peaks of the Tianshan Mountains.
Where could I possibly search for this treasure?
I wandered through the streets for a long time, visiting various pharmacies to inquire, but as expected, none had Tianshan Snow Lotus in stock.
"Wife!" Just as I was about to return to the clinic to check on Ling Zhiya, a gentle yet almost overly sweet voice called out to me.
I wanted to avoid it, but it was too late. Little Prince approached with a group of people, striding confidently toward me.
I quickly put on a smile. "Your Highness."
Little Prince's expression darkened immediately as he said, "The guards told me you came out to do something for me. I want to know what task I assigned you."
"Your Highness was drunk last night and naturally doesn't remember. You were clamoring for spicy tofu pudding, and seeing your state, it seemed unlikely that anything would happen in the bridal chamber. So I thought I'd go buy some tofu pudding for you since I had nothing else to do."
Thinking quickly, I fabricated an excuse. "I've been walking for ages without finding any place selling tofu pudding and got lost; it took me all night just to return to the city."
As I spoke, I kicked off my shoes to show him. "Look, I've walked so much that I've gotten blisters on my feet."
"It’s my fault; you’ve worked hard, Wife." Little Prince's eyes flickered as he suddenly crouched down. "Get on."
"Huh?" I was momentarily taken aback.
Without waiting for my response, he pulled me onto his back. "Wife has blisters on her feet; how can I bear to let you suffer any longer?"
The surrounding guards were all stunned, their mouths agape in shock.
I could understand their reaction; after all, I looked no different from a maid in the royal residence, yet the Southern County Young Prince treated me with such affection that it was hard to believe.
But he truly did carry me back to the palace in front of everyone, even asking the doctor for medicine and personally popping my blisters.
Feeling guilty like a thief, I was filled with various worries and fears.
The Little Prince asked with concern, "Does it still hurt?"
With one foot resting on him, I could only shake my head vigorously.
Oh dear, I was really afraid he might impulsively kiss the top of my foot. Fortunately, he did not; instead, he lightly kissed my lips, more like a ceremonial kiss.
I instantly felt my face flush and was left dumbfounded.
Yet he pecked again, reverting to his playful nature, grinning as he said, "Wife owes me something."
"W-what?" I stammered.
"The Wedding Night."
I fumbled over my words, "Little Prince, I..."
I was not at all the proper Northern County Princess he thought I was.
He asked, "What about you?"
Taking a deep breath, I replied, "I've been feeling weak and unwell these past few days. The doctor advised against any... activities. If you can't help yourself, Little Prince, you may as well visit a brothel. I wouldn't mind at all; I could even introduce you to a girl who excels in every way."
He was stunned for a moment, perhaps finding it hard to digest such lengthy words.
After a while, he finally spoke, "I should be ashamed; I didn't notice that my wife is weak and frail. Tomorrow, I will order someone to stew the Tianshan Snow Lotus from the storeroom for you to drink. I guarantee my wife will be full of energy."
Ah, the Tianshan Snow Lotus!
For Ling Zhiya, I spent the night sharing a bed with the Little Prince.
Don't get the wrong idea; we were just chatting under the covers.
In the latter half of the night, estimating that the Little Prince was sound asleep, I began to search him and found a set of keys.
Unexpectedly, in my search, I woke him up.
He blinked sleepily and pulled me closer with one arm, asking, "Why aren't you asleep yet?"
I replied, "You go ahead; you go ahead."
Once he fell back into a deep sleep, I carefully wriggled out of his embrace, clutching the keys and tiptoeing out of the room.
I lied to the guards, saying, "The Little Prince ordered me to fetch some useful medicine from the storeroom to add some fun to our private time. You understand such matters; please keep it quiet."
