The gap between her and me suddenly became as vast as heaven and earth. Before the apocalypse, we were a decent match; I was somewhat handsome and had a bit of money. But after the end of the world, I turned into a toad while she became a goddess.
Yet, I didn’t mind. My beloved Luo Zhenxue didn’t abandon me because I was a "useless key." In fact, she loved me even more. She kept me close, fearing that I might be attacked by an Anomalous Entity. I quickly became a man living off her kindness.
Unfortunately, she was a deep red Red Sequence Key, and humanity needed her on the front lines for protection. I could only stay at home, cooking for her until an unexpected incident occurred.
While she was on the front lines today, an Anomalous Entity inexplicably breached the Safe Zone. By the time she returned, I was already on the brink of death. There was no saving me; I passed away in her arms, holding onto my memories of her.
Before I died, she kept muttering about saving me, picking up a kitchen knife to chop me up. I understood her intentions; she wanted to sacrifice me to Cthulhu in hopes of reviving me. Cthulhu was an Anomalous Entity belonging to the divine Sequence, embodying unfathomable Unknown Horrors comparable to the mythological Cthulhu of Earth in my past life.
She had told me about Cthulhu before—sacrificing one’s most beloved could fulfill wishes. So she planned to dismember me before I fully died in order to offer me as a sacrifice to Cthulhu.
Since I only had one breath left and was about to expire anyway, I thought it better for my beloved Luo Xueka to do this for me. Let her dismember me for the sacrifice before my last breath.
She severed Yelai's head. After crying for a moment, Luo Zhenxue wasted no time wrapping the dismembered parts of Yelai's body in a bedsheet.
With a thud! She exerted herself and leaped through a large hole in the wall of our home. Like a monster, she jumped over ten meters, carrying the bedsheet containing Yelai's remains as she bounded between buildings until she reached a plaza resembling an ancient Western altar.
The plaza was vast. At its center stood an altar made of unknown stones, intricately carved with numerous ancient patterns.
"Captain Luo, what are you doing?" one of the Guardians watching over the Transmission Altar spoke up.
"Connect me to Cthulhu Town, quickly!"
"Ah? Cthulhu Town? No, that place is very dangerous. I can't go unless I have authorization."
"Shut up! I said to open it!"
At this moment, Luo Zhenxue's skirt was stained with blood, her beautiful face also smeared with it, and even her flowing black hair bore traces of blood. She looked utterly deranged.
The Guardians were terrified.
Never had they seen such a madness in Captain Luo; they were genuinely frightened. Forget about the authorization—after all, Luo Zhenxue had protected their Safe Zone. They hurriedly provided the teleportation coordinates for Cthulhu Town.
With a whoosh, a Light Vortex appeared at the altar.
Without hesitation, Luo Zhenxue stepped into it as the light flared up. In an instant, she vanished from sight. The Guardians, realizing their backs were inexplicably damp, wiped the sweat from their brows.
"What happened to Captain Luo? And what is that thing she's holding? It looks like it's dripping blood."
"Is that the corpse of an Anomalous Entity?"
As several Guardians exchanged words, not much time passed before a commotion erupted outside the altar.
That wasn't the corpse of an Anomalous Entity; it was Yelai's body.
The Guardians looked over and saw that the newcomers were several other captains from the Guard Zone.
The scene was quite significant, with all the Safe Zone captains gathered. However, no one paid attention to that; they were all too shocked at the moment.
"Yelai?! The Yelai who was with Captain Luo?"
"What?! He’s dead?"
Now I understand why Captain Luo has gone mad.
