In Tokyo, Japan, an old apartment building appeared particularly eerie in the stillness of the night. It housed a group of ordinary people, each seemingly harboring their own secrets. Especially the residents of The Floor, whose existence was a mystery; no one had ever seen them or heard their voices. 0

"This apartment is getting stranger by the day," Ryoko Mikazuki murmured as she stood by the window, gazing at the building across from them. Her husband, Jiekawa, approached and wrapped his arm around her shoulder. "Yeah, especially The Floor. It's always so quiet." 0

They had been married for several years, and this apartment had been their home since they were newlyweds. Despite the passage of time, it seemed as though the residents of The Floor had never existed—no sounds, no movements, not even a sign of life. 0

"Do you think they might all be dead?" Ryoko Mikazuki suddenly asked. Jiekawa paused for a moment before shaking his head. "Don't say that. How do we know what their lives are like?" 0

Though they spoke casually, both were filled with curiosity and unease about The Floor's inhabitants. Every time the night grew deep and quiet, faint and strange sounds would drift from there—whispers that sounded like crying. Whenever they tried to get closer to investigate, the sounds would abruptly cease. 0

One night, as Ryoko Mikazuki and Jiekawa were preparing for bed, they suddenly heard the doorbell ring. When they opened the door, they found a woman dressed in a black trench coat and wearing sunglasses. She introduced herself as a detective and said she needed to discuss something with them. 0

"Have you noticed the residents of The Floor?" Silence asked. Ryoko Mikazuki and Jiekawa nodded, surprised by her directness. Silence continued, "I suspect someone among them has gone missing—or may even be dead." 0

Ryoko Mikazuki and Jiekawa exchanged glances filled with confusion and fear. They had never imagined that their home concealed such a bizarre secret. Sensing their apprehension, Silence handed them her business card. "If you're willing to help me investigate the truth, please feel free to contact me." 0

A few days later, Ryoko Mikazuki and Jiekawa decided to reach out to Silence. The three of them went to the management office of the apartment building to request information about The Floor's residents. However, the staff informed them that the information was locked in a safe that only the manager could open. 0

Determined to uncover the truth, they decided to sneak into the management office at night. In the dead of night, they quietly entered the building and located the safe. But when they tried to open it, they discovered that it required sound to unlock! They were momentarily at a loss for what to do until Ryoko Mikazuki suddenly suggested, "Let's try being quiet!" 0

To their surprise, it worked—the safe actually opened! They found information about The Floor's residents: there were several households listed, but one family’s name was marked with a red cross. A sense of foreboding washed over them. 0

Silence led Ryoko Mikazuki and Jiekawa to the staircase of The Floor. They cautiously stepped inside and found it eerily silent. They knocked on doors one by one, listening for sounds and observing any movements. Finally, they stopped in front of one door that seemed blocked by something; no matter how hard they pushed, it wouldn't budge. 0

"This door is problematic," Silence said. "I can sense a strong aura of fear and despair." Ryoko Mikazuki and Jiekawa nodded in agreement. Silence then pulled out a toolkit from her pocket and began prying at the door. When it finally creaked open, they were shocked to find an empty room! Aside from a large floor-to-ceiling window, there was nothing else! And the window was locked! There was no way out! Only that strange door allowed entry and exit! Why? Why would someone renovate a house like this? Why lock the windows? Was this some kind of trap? Or had they already died? Had they turned into ghosts? 0

At that moment, all three felt a mix of emotions when suddenly a gust of wind blew through, carrying with it an almost imperceptible sound of crying—coming from outside that door or perhaps from the window—sending chills down their spines. In the end, all that remained was an endless sense of fear and unease as they waited in darkness for what felt like ages until dawn broke before leaving behind an endless mystery and the truth lurking behind it. 0

Based on what they had gathered so far, it seemed there was some terrifying connection among The Floor's residents—and perhaps someone had already met with foul play; it was just that no bodies had been found yet. As for what that red cross represented? Perhaps only an investigation could reveal its meaning. 0

Regardless, this mystery had begun to unravel—at least for now. As for how things would develop in the future? That depended on their actions and choices dictated by fate because in this world full of unknowns and dangers, nothing was absolute nor anyone truly safe. So cherish what you have right now; after all, living is what matters most. 0
