Xiao He trembled as she pointed to one of the letters. "This is the last letter I received recently."
Silence picked up the paper and read it carefully. "You will become a part of my plan." He turned to Xiao He. "Who sent you this letter? Have you offended anyone recently? Is someone following you?"
Xiao He shook her head. "No, I really don’t know who it could be." Fear and helplessness filled her eyes. "I'm just an ordinary high school student."
Silence nodded. "We need to leave here quickly and call the police." He took out his phone, dialed the emergency number, and informed the authorities to handle the scene and investigate the matter. At the same time, he decided to continue tracking down the source of this mysterious letter, hoping it would lead them to the real culprit and uncover the truth behind the entire incident.
The police arrived at the scene shortly after. Silence, Xiao He, and her mother detailed the events to the officers. The police began their investigation, trying to unravel this mystery.
Silence searched the room for clues when suddenly, she noticed a note hidden behind a wall. It read: "Tomorrow noon, meet at the back mountain." An address was written below it. Silence realized this could be the next target location left by the murderer.
"We must get there as soon as possible," Silence said firmly.
The police dispatched a special operations team to follow Silence and Xiao He to the address on the note. After more than an hour's drive, they arrived at a remote abandoned warehouse. The area around the warehouse was overgrown with weeds and littered with old vehicles, giving it a desolate appearance.
Silence carefully observed the surroundings of the warehouse and noticed that neither the windows nor the locks showed signs of being tampered with. She looked up at the sky and saw dark clouds gathering, signaling an impending rainstorm. She felt a sense of dread; if it rained, there would be even fewer clues left at the scene.
Suddenly, the door of the warehouse creaked open, revealing a figure wearing a black hat. He held a sharp dagger in his hand and wore an eerie smile.
"It seems you all arrived right on time," he said coldly. "I am from here, and I am also the murderer you have been searching for."
Silence quickly reacted, shielding Xiao He behind her. "Who are you? Why are you doing this?"
The figure laughed mockingly. "I am a resident here, just a stranger in your eyes. But do you know? I am not the real murderer."
Silence furrowed her brow. "What do you mean?"
"I am merely a tool," he continued. "The real murderer is someone familiar to you; I was brought here to carry out his plan."
Silence's heart sank. "Who is it?"
"Your principal," he replied coldly. "He has been manipulating everything from behind the scenes to cover up his crimes."
Both Silence and Xiao He were stunned; their principal was behind all of this? The figure continued to expose his crimes: "He used my dissatisfaction and anger to make me his scapegoat. The letters and maps you saw were all traps he meticulously designed."
At that moment, the police's tactical team had surrounded the warehouse and was preparing to make an arrest. Silence and Xiao He stood aside, filled with shock and anger. They understood that this nightmare was finally coming to an end.
Under intense pressure from law enforcement, the principal ultimately chose to surrender. At that moment when handcuffs were placed on him, despair and regret washed over his face. It turned out that after being exposed for corruption and embezzlement, he resorted to this extreme method to escape legal consequences, sacrificing innocent Xiao He as part of his plan.
With the truth revealed, Xiao He and her mother finally breathed a sigh of relief. They thanked Silence and the police for their help and support, grateful that this nightmare had come to an end. For Silence, this was not just an end to a case but also a profound experience regarding humanity, justice, and courage.
