The group had gathered, and it was morning. The sun struggled to penetrate the dense woods of Daxing'anling, casting dappled shadows all around. A mysterious aura lingered in the air, as if every leaf concealed an unknown secret. 0

Lao Hu, dressed in his worn yet warm military coat, with an old-fashioned binocular hanging around his neck, led the way. His steps were firm and powerful, and his vigilant gaze swept the surroundings. 0

In these deep mountains and old forests, even the slightest rustle could hide danger. Drawing on years of experience navigating this wilderness, Lao Hu carefully sought out the path ahead. 0

"Everyone stay close. This forest may look calm, but it harbors hidden dangers," Lao Hu said in a low voice, wary of startling the "natives" of the woods. 0

Zhang Qi carried the unconscious monkey on his back, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. The weight of the monkey combined with his anxiety left him slightly breathless. 0

Yet he gritted his teeth and followed closely behind Lao Hu, tightly gripping the long knife forged by Blacksmith. The knife's sheath occasionally clinked against branches as he walked, producing a faint "clink" sound. 0

A Ling wore a serious expression as she carried a cloth bag filled with various herbs and talismans. She frequently pulled out some herbs to sniff them, seemingly trying to gauge whether the surrounding energy was normal through their scent. Meanwhile, she muttered softly under her breath, whether in prayer or casting some sort of spell was unclear. 0

"The malevolent energy here is heavier than I expected; everyone be careful," A Ling quietly reminded the group. 0

Professor Li walked in the middle of the line, captivated by the natural scenery and potential historical relics around him. He wore thick glasses, and his eyes sparkled with excitement and curiosity behind the lenses. 0

Despite the rugged mountain path, he made an effort to keep pace with everyone, holding a small compass in hand and occasionally checking their direction to ensure they were not straying from the route to the ancient tomb. 0

"This primeval forest of Daxing'anling holds too many secrets of nature and history; every step feels like traversing through time," Professor Li remarked. 0

As they reached a more open area in the woods, Lao Hu suddenly halted and raised his hand to signal everyone to be quiet. He crouched low and slowly moved forward, his eyes fixed intently on a patch of grass ahead. The group's hearts raced as they held their breath. 0

Suddenly, Lao Hu lunged forward, followed by a rustling sound. 0

Moments later, he stood up holding a wild rabbit and laughed, "Hey, I almost stepped on this little guy; instead, it turned into an unexpected catch for us." 0

Zhang Qi let out a sigh of relief and chuckled wryly, "Hu Ge, you really startled us! We thought we were in danger." 0

Lao Hu laughed heartily, "In this forest, you have to be cautious about everything. But we can take this rabbit back; once we’re out of the tomb, I'll make some rabbit stew for everyone." 0

As they continued on, they passed by a gently flowing stream. 0

The water was crystal clear, sparkling with silver under the sunlight. 0

Lao Hu crouched down, scooping some water into his hands and taking a few sips. "This water is clean; everyone can replenish some hydration. Once we enter the ancient tomb, we won't have such good water to drink," he said. 0

The others followed suit, but A Ling took out a small bottle from her bag and poured some powder into the stream. She waited for it to dissolve before drinking. 0

"This is purification powder; it can remove any malevolent energy that might be in the water," she explained. 0

Professor Li found this interesting and chuckled, "Miss A Ling, your witchcraft seems quite sophisticated." 0

A Ling replied earnestly, "Professor, the dangers in the ancient tomb are not just visible; these preventive measures are essential." 0

Finally, they arrived at the entrance of the ancient tomb. 0

The entrance was still partially concealed by vines and weeds, resembling the gaping mouth of a mysterious giant beast, seemingly waiting for their return. 0

Zhang Qi stood at the entrance, gazing into the dark tomb passage, shivering involuntarily as memories of their last terrifying experience resurfaced like a nightmare. 0

"This is it. Last time, Monkey and I entered through here, and we suffered quite a bit," Zhang Qi said, his voice trembling slightly. 0

A Ling stepped forward, taking out some specially prepared herbs and talismans from her bag to distribute among them. 0

"Keep these herbs on you; they can ward off evil spirits. The talismans will ensure safety in critical moments," A Ling said as she handed them out. 0

Lao Hu took the herbs and talismans with a hint of skepticism, sniffing the herbs. "Does this stuff really work? Well, having it is better than not having it," he remarked. 0

Professor Li examined the talisman in his hand closely and curiously asked, "A Ling, do these runes on the talisman have any special meaning?" 0

A Ling responded, "These runes symbolize ancient witchcraft and contain the power to suppress evil. They serve as a barrier between us and the unknown dangers within the tomb." 0

Professor Li could no longer contain his excitement. He switched on the flashlight he carried, its beam appearing faint in the daylight but becoming the sole source of illumination as he stepped into the tomb passage. 0

He was the first to enter, his footsteps quickening as if he feared missing some crucial discovery. 0

His gaze was immediately drawn to the murals on the walls. Despite years of erosion, their colors were faded, yet one could still discern their former exquisite beauty. 0

"Wow, everyone come look! These murals are incredibly precious!" Professor Li exclaimed, his voice echoing through the passage. 0

Zhang Qi and the others followed him into the tomb, gathering around Professor Li. The murals depicted figures in strange attire, some engaged in rituals while others danced, the scenes vividly alive. 0

Professor Li animatedly gestured with his hands. "Look at these clothing styles; they likely represent characteristics of a long-lost ancient tribe. This tribe may have had unique religious beliefs and social structures, and these murals depict their way of life." 0

Lao Hu scratched his head beside him and asked, "Professor, these figures look quite odd. What are they doing?" 0

Professor Li patiently explained, "They are probably performing a ritual to pray for blessings or favors from the deities. This is extremely significant for our understanding of the culture and beliefs of that era." 0

A Ling observed the layout and feng shui of the tomb passage with a furrowed brow. "The design of this passage seems to follow a specific feng shui pattern, possibly intended to trap or suppress malevolent spirits within the tomb. However, this also means that once we delve deeper, we might trigger certain mechanisms or disturb those sealed forces." 0

Hearing this, Zhang Qi felt even more uneasy. He tightened his grip on his long knife and said, "Regardless, we need to proceed with caution. Finding a way to rescue the monkey is our priority." 0

At that moment, a musty odor filled the passage, mingling with the group's tense atmosphere; an exhilarating adventure was about to unfold. 0
