After regaining his composure, Qi Xiaomian expressed his gratitude. Sang Qingxiao shot him a glare, having seen many people courting disaster, but never someone like him. A person of Yongxin Marquis's caliber, with a superior mind, could have at least a seventy percent chance of saving himself by relying solely on his own strength during the early stages of the demon invasion. 0

Even if he missed that initial phase, in the mid-stage, it wouldn't be difficult for him to find someone capable of exorcising demons with the full power of the Great Jing Dynasty backing him. 0

Yet now, he was on the verge of losing control over the demonic energy within him, and from the malevolent aura seeping from his wounds, it was evident that Bloodthirst was extreme. I boldly speculated that he might be using Bloodthirst to amplify his demonic energy and then honing himself with that energy. 0

"Honing" was a rather polite term; Qi Xiaomian's body had already become half-demon. Once balance was achieved within him, the demon could break free at any moment. 0

Hearing this, Qi Xiaomian fixed his piercing gaze on Sang Qingxiao. She was right about many things. 0

Becoming a demon was voluntary, done in order to survive. Cultivating with demonic energy was also voluntary, aimed at living better. Leaving the military camp was still for survival; the appetite of the demonic energy nourished by Bloodthirst grew larger and larger, and his cultivation barely kept pace with the burgeoning power of the demonic energy. 0

Choosing the Office of Censors was not only for power but also because it contained Bloodthirst—though in small quantities, it was just enough for him to draw upon whenever needed to maintain balance within. 0

After a moment, Qi Xiaomian finally spoke. "Miss Sang, the more you know, the quicker you die." 0

Sang Qingxiao laughed and interjected, "Do you still want that talisman?" 0

Seeing the frost on his face slowly melting away and a hint of a smile appearing at the corners of his mouth, he stepped closer to her until they were face to face. 0

"I remember there’s a line on the Caution Tablet that says one must kill when encountering demons. Miss Sang, are you going against the rules left by Patriarch?" 0

Rules were merely meant to regulate others; if one could deceive others with clever words, there was no need for Marquis to take them seriously. Sang Qingxiao leaned in slightly. "This talisman I possess is something I learned by chance; it can help you regulate your insides and calm your demonic energy but cannot completely resolve your issues." 0

"It would be best for you to choose a side as soon as possible. If you continue like this—neither fully demon nor fully human—trying to have it both ways will be most troublesome." 0

"Look at what almost happened just now." 0

What is a demon? What is a person? What is a monster? 0

There are good demons; Sang Qingxiao had known one or two. As for Qi Xiaomian's situation, it was hard to predict where it would lead; they would just have to wait and see. 0

Qi Xiaomian complained slightly, "I almost got into trouble because of you. There's a Demon Emperor residing beside me; for demons, a Demon Emperor is like a great tonic." 0

"Then you can't blame me; this Little Demon Emperor is raised by that Fox Demon." 0

Upon hearing this, Qi Xiaomian frowned and said, "What qualifications does it have to raise the Demon Emperor? And why keep it in Jingjing City? Could it be that the demon race has some sort of conspiracy?" 0

Sang Qingxiao explained, "I noticed that the Fox Demon was weak and showed no signs of having undergone the Heart-Cutting Evil Technique, so I looked into its memories. It turns out that all the hearts it had extracted were fed to this Little Demon Emperor." 0
