"I'll introduce you," he said loudly. "This is my sister, Zhou Yuan, and this is my classmate, Yao Nian, along with her uncle."
Shen Du stood up and smiled. "Hello, I'm Shen Du."
The woman had chestnut-colored waves cascading down her shoulders, dressed in a light brown skirt suit. She held a high-quality small goat leather handbag in one hand and wore an exquisite brooch on her chest, exuding the aura of a mature woman.
With a hint of apology, she said, "I'm sorry to interrupt your meal."
Shen Du chuckled, "Not at all, I owe it all to Yao Nian."
After speaking, he picked up the menu and handed it to Zhou Shiyi. "I've ordered a few dishes; I hope they suit your taste. Let me know if you need anything else."
"That's enough," Zhou Shiyi said as he pulled out a chair beside Yao Nian and sat down. "We're easygoing; as long as there's food, it's fine!"
Yao Nian couldn't shake the feeling that since they entered this private room, Zhou Yuan's gaze had been fixed on Shen Du without wavering. She felt inexplicably uncomfortable but still politely poured tea for the siblings.
Zhou Yuan held the teacup and thanked her. "So you are Yao Nian; it's great to finally meet you in person."
Yao Nian was taken aback. "What?"
The woman's lips curled into a smile, her glossy lip gloss shimmering with a moist sheen. "Xiao Yi often mentions you, saying his deskmate is a top student and beautiful. Now that I've met you today, he was right."
Yao Nian forced out a couple of dry laughs.
Zhou Shiyi scratched his head awkwardly.
Zhou Yuan's gaze returned to Shen Du. "You look quite young; if Xiao Yi hadn't mentioned it, I would have thought you were Yao Nian's older brother."
Shen Du chuckled lightly. "That's flattery; we can't mix up our generations. I'm a friend of Yao Nian's father."
"That makes sense," Zhou Yuan said with realization. "You two don't look like relatives at all. What does Shen Xian do?"
"He's a lawyer," Shen Du replied. "No need to be formal; just call me Shen Du."
The conversation flowed naturally between them, mostly consisting of Zhou Yuan asking questions and Shen Du answering, while the two younger ones felt they couldn't interject in the adults' discussion.
"Hey," Zhou Shiyi nudged Yao Nian's sleeve.
Yao Nian shot him a cool glance. "What?"
She couldn't muster any warmth towards this middle-aged man.
"Have you received the graduation party notification?"
Graduation party? Yao Nian was puzzled; hadn’t it already been held earlier?
What kind of party was that? At most, it was just a gathering. Zhou Shiyi said, "The homeroom teacher should send out a notice tomorrow. I heard from the class monitor that this time the school is organizing the event quite formally."
Yao Nian attended Huaibei Private International High School, where the tuition was three hundred thousand. The top-tier facilities justified the price, and there was a strong sense of ceremony. Every year, a graduation ceremony was specifically held for the graduating seniors.
Yao Nian had heard about this tradition, but since it had been nearly a month since the college entrance exams ended, she thought the school wouldn’t organize such formal activities anymore.
While she was talking to Zhou Shiyi, she noticed that a peeled large shrimp had somehow appeared in front of her bowl.
Confused, Yao Nian turned her head and met Shen Du's gaze.
The man took off his gloves and smiled at her.
"Hey," Zhou Shiyi leaned closer with a mischievous grin. "Your uncle treats you pretty well; he even peeled shrimp for you. Unlike my sister, who never even offered me a single carrot strip growing up."
Yao Nian picked up the shrimp and took a bite, the sweet meat filling her mouth.
"Enjoy your meal," she said, turning slightly to distance herself from Zhou Shiyi.
Wasn’t it just a matter of speaking?
Zhou Shiyi’s face was suddenly filled with question marks of all sizes.
