Seeing that everyone had nearly finished eating, Yao Nian stood up first and said, "You all sit for a moment; I need to go to the restroom."
She turned and headed straight for the front desk, reporting the private room number to the cashier. "Hello, I’d like to settle the bill."
The cashier clicked her mouse and replied, "Your table has already been paid for."
"What? When did that happen?" Yao Nian paused, ready to pull out her payment code.
"Just a little while ago," the cashier said. "Someone came over to pay."
It must have been Shen Du. Yao Nian hadn’t even noticed when he left the private room. She sighed; it was one thing for him to treat her to a meal, but he also included her classmates, which made her feel a bit embarrassed.
With her head down, Yao Nian returned to the private room, just in time to see that everyone had nearly finished their meals.
Zhou Yuan stood up and pulled out a business card from her bag, handing it to Shen Du. "Lawyer Shen, this is the address of my tea house. I still have some tea left; feel free to come by for a cup when you have time."
Shen Du politely accepted the card. "I’ll definitely visit when I have a chance."
Zhou Yuan’s eagerness was quite apparent. To be fair, they looked good together—both talented and of similar age; standing side by side was indeed pleasing to the eye.
"Zhou Yuan, can I come along?" Yao Nian suddenly called out. "I also enjoy drinking tea."
"Of course! I thought you young people preferred coffee," Zhou Yuan replied, glancing at Zhou Shiyi with a teasing smile. "You can always ask Xiao Yi to bring you over; there’s no charge."
"Why didn’t you say so?" Zhou Shiyi chimed in. "I didn’t know you liked tea! I’ll bring some over tomorrow; my sister has plenty."
Yao Nian felt misunderstood and quickly closed her mouth, feeling a bit awkward.
The four of them walked out of the private room together. Shen Du went to get the car while Yao Nian waited at the restaurant entrance for him.
She glanced sideways at Zhou Shiyi and asked, "Why aren’t you leaving yet?"
"I’m waiting for my sister; she went to the restroom," Zhou Shiyi replied. "Do you have time tomorrow? I’ll bring you some tea leaves."
"No thanks," Yao Nian sighed. "I was just joking earlier; I actually prefer coffee."
Zhou Shiyi looked puzzled for a moment; he sensed something was off about Yao Nian that evening but couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
Just then, Shen Du’s car arrived.
"Wow," Zhou Shiyi exclaimed in amazement. "I never realized being a lawyer could be so lucrative. Your uncle's car isn't cheap; judging by the specs, it must cost over a hundred thousand."
Yao Nian didn't understand cars at all; she could barely recognize a logo, let alone grasp the details of pricing and performance.
Zhou Shiyi continued to mutter to himself, "With that price, you could buy a Bentley. Why would he choose such an obscure brand?"
Yao Nian shot him a glare. "What do you know?"
She climbed into the car, leaving Zhou Shiyi standing alone, feeling a bit flustered in the wind.
They had lingered over their meal for quite some time. In the distance, the sky began to glow with a golden hue, gently filtering through the clouds.
The girl leaned against the car window, her eyes squinting as if deep in thought. A soft light enveloped her profile, making her skin appear almost translucent.
Upon closer inspection, each of Yao Nian's features might not stand out on their own, but together they formed a unique beauty—imperfect yet perfectly harmonious, like an unrefined gem that exuded an innate charm.
As Yao Nian drifted into her thoughts, a clear voice broke through. "Are you ready to go home?"
She snapped back to reality and nodded slightly.
Shen Du glanced at her with a smile and turned on the indicator. "If you want to go anywhere else, just let me know; we won’t take another car."
Remembering her awkward situation from the night before, Yao Nian rubbed her nose and replied, "Actually, I don't go out that often."
Shen Du's smile deepened as he instinctively turned up the volume when the intro of a song began to play in the car.
The gentle and magnetic voice of Chen Baiqiang filled the space.
"Troubles can't be shaken off; melancholy drifts away.
Why does my heart feel so empty?
When love is gone, everything fades away."
