Yao Nian felt like her eyes were about to be poked out by Xu Jiayi. The graduation ceremony was set to begin that evening, and after having lunch, she rushed home with a box full of makeup, claiming she was there to help Yao Nian get ready. 0

“Hey, don’t move just yet,” Xu Jiayi said, her amateur makeup skills on full display as she struggled for nearly twenty minutes to stick false eyelashes onto Yao Nian’s eyelids. 0

“Is it really necessary to go all out like this? I’m about to go blind if you poke me one more time!” Yao Nian exclaimed, her eyes welling up with tears. 0

“How can it not be grand? You’re the star of our class!” Xu Jiayi replied, rubbing her sore elbows. Leaning closer, she lowered her voice, “I feel like your face isn’t really suited for heavy makeup.” 0

“Let me see,” Yao Nian said. 0

“Wait, not yet—” 0

Before Xu Jiayi could stop her, Yao Nian grabbed a mirror from the table and took a look. 0

“Xu Jiayi!” she shouted in horror. She saw two patches of blush on her cheeks that looked like burns. “Are you planning to send me straight to the circus for a performance?” 0

Xu Jiayi stifled a laugh. “I—I didn’t realize I was too heavy-handed just now. I’ll fix it!” 0

“Absolutely not,” Yao Nian firmly rejected her as she walked toward the bathroom. “You’re fired.” 0

As night fell, the banquet hall of Huai Bei International High School was ablaze with lights, and students began to arrive in droves. From the awkwardness of their uniformed high school days to the stunning suits and elegant dresses they wore now, it marked the beginning of a brand new chapter in their lives. 0

Xu Jiayi donned a French beret and wore a vintage plaid vest dress, accessorized with a colorful silk scarf around her neck. She looked like a fashion model from the 90s strutting down the streets of London for a photoshoot, drawing many admiring glances from those around her. 0

When the girl behind her stepped into the banquet hall, it was clear that even more eyes were drawn in their direction. Under the lights, Yao Nian’s satin pink dress shimmered with a moist glow. Her hair was elegantly pinned up, showcasing her delicate features. 0

The foundation on her face was so light it was almost imperceptible, yet it perfectly evened out her skin tone. The lipstick in a low-saturation smoky rose color accentuated her features beautifully, elevating her entire aura. 0

“Yao Nian!” 0

Seeing Zhou Shiyi running toward her made Yao Nian feel an inexplicable headache. 0

“You look beautiful today! I’ve never seen you in a dress before!” 0

Xu Jiayi interrupted him without hesitation, "Zhou Shiyi, that suit you're wearing was stolen from your dad, right?" 0

"That's nonsense," Zhou Shiyi retorted. "What qualifications do you have to criticize me when you look like a newsboy?" 0

"Who looks like a newsboy?" Xu Jiayi shouted angrily, hands on her hips. "I'm wearing this year's trendiest gray! You, a straight guy, wouldn't understand anything!" 0

"Enough already," Yao Nian said helplessly, stepping between the two. "Why do you two always start arguing the moment you see each other?" 0

Zhou Shiyi moved closer to Yao Nian, resembling a bodyguard. "I'll let it slide today since it's for your sake." 0

Xu Jiayi stuck her tongue out at him and glanced behind them. "Oh, my parents are here! I need to go bring them inside." 0

"What about you?" Yao Nian asked Zhou Shiyi. "The parents are almost all here; aren't you going to greet them?" 0

"My parents are too busy to come." 0

Just as she was about to lament their shared plight, Zhou Shiyi turned his head and pointed with his chin. "Look, my sister is here." 0

Not far away, Zhou Yuan was also looking over and waved at them with a smile. 0
