Shen Du smiled as he plugged in the charger.
As Xu Jiayi entered the hospital room, she saw Yao Nian grinning while holding her phone.
Tsk tsk tsk, who is she chatting with to be so happy?
Yao Nian noticed the bright yellow figure and complained, "Don't you have any awareness of visiting a patient? You come empty-handed?"
"I'm wronged!" Xu Jiayi set down her bag and plopped down beside the bed. "You said you could only eat liquid food. Otherwise, I would have brought some water just to show my concern."
Yao Nian rolled her eyes dramatically. "So it has to be food?"
"Flowers, perhaps?" Xu Jiayi smiled slightly. "Did you not just receive a bouquet yesterday? Are you still not satisfied?"
Yao Nian silently closed her mouth.
Xu Jiayi looked at her; the girl’s lips lacked color, and she appeared visibly worn out.
She quickly regained her seriousness. "Sigh, this time it's all my fault. If I hadn't delayed things for so long, you wouldn't..."
"Don't take all the blame for everything," Yao Nian interrupted her. "It's my own issue."
"Huh? Where's your Uncle Shen?" She glanced around the room.
"He stayed overnight and went to rest first."
"An entire night?"
Xu Jiayi's eyes sparkled with teasing curiosity. "So, how was it? Alone together in a room—did any sparks fly?"
"Sparks? Please," Yao Nian sighed. "With how things were last night, if there were no sparks, I’d consider it a blessing."
"Pfft! I've never seen someone curse themselves like this," Xu Jiayi teased.
Yao Nian leaned back thoughtfully. "Jiayi, I feel like he always sees me as a child."
Xu Jiayi paused for two seconds in silence.
Though she had to admit that Uncle Shen indeed had some charm, she asked, "What do you mean?"
Yao Nian replied softly, "If he didn’t see you as a child, others would probably think he’s a creep."
Yao Nian choked on her words. "Is that really necessary? There's a twelve-year age gap; it's not like it's twenty years!"
The focus isn't on age, she said with a smile, "You see, she's your father's friend, and you call her 'Auntie.' It immediately gives off that awkward vibe of a family drama."
Yao Nian suddenly felt a bit stifled in her chest.
In the evening, the crowd in the mall was significantly larger than during the day. Shen Du stood outside a lingerie store, looking quite troubled.
In the end, he didn't listen to Yao Nian. After all, it was someone else's home, and it wouldn't be appropriate to go in when no one was around. Shen Du wasn't a naive newcomer to society; he wasn't too embarrassed about entering a women's lingerie store, but it was indeed his first time.
As soon as he stepped inside, a sales assistant quickly approached him. "Good evening, sir. Are you here alone?"
Shen Du glanced around at the shelves filled with various bras and panties, cleared his throat lightly, and asked, "Do you have any sleepwear?"
The sales assistant guided him toward the stairs while enthusiastically saying, "We have many styles of sleepwear available—there's something for everyone. You can take your time choosing."
She led him to a row of mannequins. "Is this for your girlfriend? Take a look at these and see if you like any."
She pointed to two pieces of sleepwear: one was a leopard print embroidered camisole, and the other was a sheer black lace nightgown.
Shen Du silently shifted his gaze away.
Not this kind, he explained awkwardly under the sales assistant's eager gaze. "It's for a young girl; it shouldn't be so revealing. Yes, something more modest."
"A young girl?" She paused for a moment. "How old is she?"
"About eighteen or nineteen."
"Oh," the sales assistant suddenly understood. "So you're buying it for your daughter?"
