Although the doctor had advised her not to eat fried or spicy food for the time being upon her discharge, Yao Nian felt a strong craving and thought that just a small bite wouldn’t hurt. 0

She reached for her chopsticks, and just as she was about to touch the plate of fried crab sticks, the table suddenly began to spin faster. The yam and monkey head mushroom rib soup that Shen Du had added swirled into her view. 0

This scene felt oddly familiar. Yao Nian silently turned her head, only to see Shen Du chatting with Yao Zhandong without changing his expression. However, his fingers were gripping the table edge, tapping lightly on the surface twice, which seemed to carry a warning. 0

Reluctantly, Yao Nian withdrew her chopsticks and tentatively scooped two spoonfuls of rib soup into her bowl. Sure enough, the moment she placed the spoon back into her bowl, Shen Du's fingers relaxed, and the table returned to its normal rotation speed. 0

Yao Zhandong raised his glass to clink with Shen Du’s. “When are you heading back to Shanghai? I can have Lao Cheng take you to the airport.” 0

“Did you forget I drove here?” Shen Du replied with a smile. 0

“Oh right, I almost forgot,” Yao Zhandong said with a click of his tongue. “Being young is different; I’m in so much pain now. I can’t sit still for more than three hours in the car.” 0

“Is it lumbar muscle strain?” Shen Du asked. “I know an old Chinese medicine doctor with a good reputation. If you need it, I can help you make an appointment when I return to Shanghai tomorrow.” 0

“That would be great; you could help me schedule a time,” Yao Zhandong began but was suddenly interrupted by Yao Nian lifting her head. 0

“You’re leaving tomorrow?” 0

The air in the private room froze for a moment. Shen Du raised an eyebrow. 0

Yao Zhandong looked puzzled at being interrupted. “I haven’t heard you speak for a while, and now your voice is quite loud. What’s it to you?” 0

She realized too late how eager her tone had sounded. Yao Nian quickly tried to clarify, “What I meant was… Uncle Shen has taken care of me for so many days; I haven’t expressed my gratitude properly, and I feel a bit guilty.” 0

After hearing this, Yao Zhandong looked quite pleased. “It seems my girl has grown up a bit; she knows how to be grateful now. Not bad at all.” 0

When Shen Du shot her a meaningful glance, Yao Nian hurriedly looked away and continued sipping her soup as if nothing had happened. 0

Yao Zhandong’s phone rang several times. He was enjoying his drink and didn’t want to answer it, but when he saw the name on the screen, his expression visibly darkened. 0

“I’ll take this call and step outside for a smoke,” he said. “Shen Du, wait for me; we haven’t had enough to drink yet.” 0

Watching him sway out the door, Yao Nian furrowed her brow. If he kept drinking like this every day, it was only a matter of time before something went wrong. 0

Just as she withdrew her gaze, Shen Du turned to her, arms crossed, watching her with keen interest. 0

"Little girl, how do you plan to thank me?" 0

She couldn't tell if it was the alcohol affecting him, but tonight Shen Du felt different from usual. His smiling eyes held a casual nonchalance that made her breath catch when their gazes met. 0

"Uncle Shen," she coughed lightly, "what time will you wake up tomorrow?" 0

Shen Du pondered for a moment. "After I wake up?" 0

"And when will that be?" 0

He chuckled. "Are you planning to come see me off?" 0

Yao Nian's voice sounded muffled. "You’re driving; you don’t need anyone to send you off." 0

"I'll be leaving at two in the afternoon." 0

Shen Du's expression suddenly turned serious. "If you want to thank me, then promise me you'll eat properly from now on. Don’t skip any meals; I can’t let Uncle take care of you for nothing these days, can I?" 0

Yao Nian instinctively tightened her fingers at her side and whispered, "I know." 0

Qiao Shuzhen had already signed the divorce agreement, and Shen Du's work was long finished. Yao Nian knew he would be leaving; she just didn’t expect it to happen so suddenly. 0

A wave of dejection washed over her, and an unsettling feeling rose from her chest. 0
