Lin Mo rolled up her sleeves, grabbed the watermelon, and spun it around twice before bringing her elbow down hard onto it.
In the astonished gazes of Yao Nian and Fang Yiran, the watermelon visibly cracked open. With a sharp twist, a crisp sound echoed as the watermelon split apart, revealing its juicy red flesh, filling the room with a sweet fragrance.
Yao Nian's mouth fell slightly open as she turned to Fang Yiran, who still hadn’t started clapping. The others quickly joined in to give Lin Mo an enthusiastic round of applause.
Lin Mo waved her hand dismissively, pretending to be profound. “Next time, I’ll show you how to split a durian with my bare hands.”
“Hey,” Fang Yiran pointed to the empty bed, “do you think Li Rufan will come tonight?”
“It’s almost eleven; the dormitory supervisor will lock the doors soon,” Lin Mo said as she spat out a watermelon seed. “Our school has two days of reporting time; it’s normal for her to come late.”
“Let’s cherish these two days,” Lin Mo said, leaning back in her chair and stretching lazily. “Once classes start, we’ll have military training right away.”
“Almost forgot,” Yao Nian picked up the two exquisitely packaged gift bags on the table. “Don’t hand them over just yet; I bought some sunscreen. I don’t know if you’re used to this brand.”
“Is this for us?” Fang Yiran opened one of the bags and exclaimed, “Wow, this sunscreen is expensive!”
“This one works really well,” Yao Nian said with a smile. “One tube is worth ten.”
“No wonder your skin is so fair,” Lin Mo shook the bag playfully. “Thanks!”
Friendships among girls are built quickly—sharing a watermelon, enjoying each other’s beauty products, or reminiscing about high school crushes. Combined with the freshness of being in a new environment and transitioning from high school to university life, the three girls found themselves chatting on the balcony until dawn.
Suddenly, Yao Nian felt that making friends wasn’t as difficult as she had thought.
That night, whether it was due to unfamiliar surroundings or not, she unsurprisingly found herself unable to sleep.
The next day marked the last day for new students to report before military training began.
She opened her navigation app; during the process of transferring her household registration earlier, she had seen the name of Shen Du Law Firm on the authorization agreement.
It was easy to remember: Xincheng Law Firm.
She typed those words into the search box, and the address quickly popped up.
The law firm wasn’t close to Huada University; navigation indicated that it would take nearly an hour by taxi. Holding her phone tightly, Yao Nian silently made up her mind.
Early the next morning, Yao Nian was awakened by a series of clattering sounds.
Lin Mo impatiently pulled the blanket over her head. Who was it, disturbing her sleep?
Yao Nian groggily sat up and noticed that the empty desk across from her was now cluttered with items, and a suitcase stood beside the chair. A girl emerged from the bathroom carrying a basin of water. She was short and slim, wearing glasses, and looked quite plain.
Yao Nian rubbed her eyes and smiled at her. "You must be Ru Fen, right?"
Li Ru Fen stared at her for a moment, her gaze somewhat ambiguous. She simply replied with a soft "Mm" before turning back to wipe the table.
Yao Nian shrugged, glancing at the clock to find it was only seven o'clock. She yawned and planned to crawl back into bed for a little more sleep.
The sounds of water splashing from the towel, the suitcase being opened, and the chair scraping against the floor filled the room.
Lin Mo could no longer tolerate it. She threw off the blanket and jumped out of bed. "Li, can you please not make such a racket at this hour? Everyone is still trying to sleep."
Li Ru Fen didn’t stop what she was doing, nor did she even look at Lin Mo. "The school hasn’t prohibited tidying up in the morning, and besides, it’s not that early."
Lin Mo choked on her words, about to lash out when Yao Nian quickly intervened. "Lin Mo, just let it go."
Fang Yi sat up sleepily, asking, "What’s going on?"
"Damn it." Lin Mo turned and stormed into the bathroom, slamming the door behind her.
The dormitory housed people from all walks of life, each with different habits and routines. Conflicts were inevitable. Yao Nian thought that since they would be living together for a long time, it was better to avoid disputes whenever possible.
