However, Yao Nian's cheerful mood was not affected by this little incident. After struggling with her choice for a while, she finally settled on a pair of slightly flared vintage jeans paired with a burgundy knitted short-sleeve top. Her hair was dark and shiny, with a natural wave, giving her an air reminiscent of the Hong Kong style from the 1990s.
When she emerged from changing, both Lin Mo and Fang Yi were momentarily taken aback.
"Wow," Fang Yi said, staring at her. "Yao Nian, I didn't realize your figure was this good!"
Lin Mo blinked and added, "Looks like someone is going on a date!"
Yao Nian smiled shyly and replied, "I’m just meeting a friend."
At that moment, Li Rufen, who was making her bed, chimed in, "Aren't you hot wearing that in this weather?"
As soon as she said that, the other three fell silent, and Lin Mo rolled her eyes dramatically.
"It's not that bad," Yao Nian said. "How about we wait for you to finish making your bed and then head to the cafeteria together?"
Fang Yi nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah! This is the first time our dorm is all together. I've heard the cafeteria at Huada has amazing food. I even heard there's a rotating hot pot on the third floor!"
Li Rufen paused for half a second before responding. "I'm not going. We have four years to eat here; I'm not worried about running out of food."
"Oh come on!" Lin Mo said impatiently. "Let’s go already! I'm starving! Why should I stick around here?"
Yao Nian placed the last remaining gift bag on Li Rufen's desk. "This is for you—military training."
Li Rufen leaned over the edge of her bed to take a look. "For me?"
Yao Nian nodded. "I happened to be buying some yesterday, so I thought I’d get one for everyone."
Before leaving, Fang Yi persistently asked, "Xiao Fen, how about we pack something for you later?"
"Let’s go!" Lin Mo pulled her along by her chubby little hand and dragged her out of the dorm.
The three of them headed toward the school cafeteria. Lin Mo yawned heavily and complained, "Seriously, it’s so noisy early in the morning; it feels like I didn’t sleep well at all."
"I saw you were almost ready this morning," Yao Nian said as she patted her shoulder. "You can take a nap when we get back after lunch."
"I hope this sister doesn’t pull any more stunts," Lin Mo sighed.
After finishing their meal at the cafeteria, Lin Mo expressed that she didn’t want to return to the dorm so early and made plans to go shopping with Fang Yi instead. Yao Nian had already arranged for a ride earlier that morning, so she bid them farewell and headed straight for the school gate.
On her way to the law firm, despite having prepared thoroughly and intentionally dressing more maturely, Yao Nian couldn’t help but feel her heart racing at the thought of seeing him soon.
"Miss," the driver's voice pulled her thoughts back. "I can't stop here; I'll drop you off at this intersection."
Yao Nian stretched her neck to look out the window but didn't see any particularly noticeable signs. "Excuse me, do you know where the Xincheng Law Firm is?"
"The law firm?" The driver pointed towards the intersection. "This area is all office buildings; it should be inside there."
Yao Nian thanked him and walked in the direction he indicated.
Surrounding her was a row of office buildings, and across the street stood a large green mermaid Starbucks, its glass facade reflecting the sunlight in a somewhat blinding manner.
It seemed to be lunchtime, and with the heat, there weren't many people around; only a few were lined up to buy coffee.
As Yao Nian approached the middle office building, she spotted the words "Xincheng Law Firm."
A smile unconsciously crept onto her lips as she prepared to enter when a Panamera suddenly accelerated and stopped right at the entrance.
Aren't cars not allowed to enter here?
Yao Nian halted her steps; the car was blocking the entrance. She moved a couple of steps to the shade of a nearby tree, planning to wait for the car to leave before going inside.
