Shen Du had just told Yao Nian that he was coming down to meet her. She put away her phone and pouted slightly, thinking that she was no longer a child who needed someone to escort her upstairs.
As she arrived at the entrance of the law firm, Yao Nian saw Ji Zheyuan standing at the door, talking to two men. He seemed to be quite attentive to them, bowing slightly as he opened the car door for them with great courtesy.
Just as Ji Zheyuan was about to turn back, he spotted Yao Nian standing at the entrance. "Sister?" His eyes lit up as he hurried over to her. "What brings you here?"
"Brother Zheyuan," Yao Nian greeted him and, watching the car drive away, cautiously asked, "Are you busy? Am I interrupting anything?"
"Oh, it's nothing," Ji Zheyuan waved his hand dismissively and led her toward the elevator. "You came to see Shen Du, right? I'll take you up."
"Thank you, Brother Zheyuan," Yao Nian replied.
As the elevator doors opened, a rich aroma of coffee filled the air, mingling with various voices and the sounds of printers and keyboards clacking away.
Almost everyone seemed busy; some were animatedly talking on their phones while others hurriedly donned their coats, clutching their laptops as they prepared to leave.
While Ji Zheyuan was guiding Yao Nian through the lobby, they nearly collided with a boy carrying a thick stack of documents. He swerved suddenly, losing his balance and spilling everything onto the floor.
Yao Nian gasped and quickly knelt down to help him gather the papers. The boy apologized repeatedly as he picked up the scattered documents. When he looked up and saw her face, he froze for a moment, his cheeks flushing red. "Are you okay?"
Ji Zheyuan frowned. "Xiao Lü, how can you be so careless? You need to watch where you're going."
The boy stood up awkwardly, pushing up his glasses. "Sorry, Ji Lu. I was in such a rush."
Noticing that the boy kept glancing at Yao Nian, Ji Zheyuan stepped in front of her protectively and waved his hand dismissively. "Alright, go do what you need to do."
Gathering his courage, the boy weakly asked, "Who is she?"
"What business is it of yours?" Ji Zheyuan tilted his head toward Yao Nian, signaling her to go ahead.
As she walked toward the stairs, he turned back to the boy and said ominously, "Don't get any funny ideas; she's Shen Lu's family."
A flicker of panic crossed the boy's eyes as he hurriedly gathered his things and left.
Yao Nian hesitated for a moment before gently knocking on Shen Du's office door, which was slightly ajar. The sound of high heels clicking on the floor echoed from within.
Before she could react, the door was pulled open, and a beautiful woman was staring at her.
Yao Nian's memory was instantly triggered. She recognized this woman. She was the one who had embraced Shen Du outside the law firm that day. Today, the woman wasn't wearing sunglasses, allowing Yao Nian to clearly see her striking features.
The woman's cat-like almond-shaped eyes were slightly upturned, her high nose bridge accentuated her face, and her berry-colored lips glistened with a moist sheen. She was stunningly beautiful.
The moment Yao Nian saw her, her first instinct was to flee from this place immediately. But it felt as if her feet were nailed to the ground; she couldn't move an inch.
