Song Xiaolin stepped out of the tent, clutching her stomach, her brow furrowed tightly as she searched the picnic table with a frantic gaze.
"Sister Xiaolin?" Yao Nian stood up, brushing off the dust from her hands. "Are you feeling unwell?"
Xiaolin let out a hiss and grabbed a piece of paper from the table. "I need to go to the bathroom."
"Do you want me to come with you?"
She waved her hand at Yao Nian as she hurried away.
Shen Du lifted the tent flap. "What's going on?"
"It seems like she ate something bad," Ji Zheyuan said as he unzipped his sleeping bag and stepped outside, shivering slightly. "I'll go ask the boss if they have any anti-diarrheal medicine or something."
They had been gone for quite a while without returning.
Suddenly, a loud crash of a broken bottle echoed from not far away, followed by a chaotic argument.
Both of them turned their gazes toward the commotion. Shen Du frowned as he saw Ji Zheyuan's face flushed red, surrounded by a group of men and women near the camper.
"Zheyuan?" Yao Nian exclaimed. "Sister Xiaolin is over there too!"
"Stay here and don’t run off," Shen Du said firmly. "I’ll go take a look."
Ji Zheyuan pointed at a man wearing a black graffiti-patterned coat, his eyes nearly bulging out of their sockets. "What did you just say? Say it again if you dare!"
"What the hell did I say?" The man shot back defiantly. "I just let her come over for a drink, what's wrong with that?"
"A drink? Are you kidding me?" Ji Zheyuan's face darkened. "You’re provoking her against her will in this situation; do you realize that constitutes sexual harassment?"
The group erupted in laughter at his words. "Harassment? Look at you! If you have the guts, go ahead and call the police on me!"
"Hahahahaha."
Beside Song Xiaolin, someone tugged at his sleeve and shook their head. "Zheyuan, just let it go."
After Shen Du approached, he quickly grasped what was happening and held back Ji Zheyuan's eager fist. "Don't act rashly."
Among that group were both men and women, all looking quite intoxicated, their gazes hazy yet provocative.
Shen Du looked sternly at the leading man. "We're all here to have fun; you wouldn’t want to escalate this situation. Just apologize to her, and we can let this go."
"Apologize?" The man raised an eyebrow, his tone arrogant. "Who do you think you are to make me apologize?"
Shen Du exchanged glances with Ji Zheyuan.
No one understood the requirements for justifiable defense better than them.
Yao Nian stood on her tiptoes, straining to see through the crowd, but her short stature made it impossible to catch a glimpse of what was happening in the center where Shen Du and the others were surrounded.
Suddenly, a piercing scream from Song Xiaolin cut through the noise, tightening Yao Nian's chest. Without a moment's hesitation, she rushed forward.
Song Xiaolin's face was filled with terror as she clutched Ji Zheyuan's arm tightly. Shen Du had a firm grip on a man's elbow, who was bent over with his legs curled beneath him, his expression twisted in pain—he was clearly suffering!
Just as Yao Nian thought they had managed to control the situation, her sharp eyes caught sight of a woman in a blue cotton jacket with short hair raising a broken beer bottle, ready to smash it over Shen Du's head.
A surge of adrenaline rushed through her; she dashed in front of the woman and pushed her back forcefully, shouting, "What do you think you're doing?!"
Caught off guard, the woman stumbled back two steps, her foot hitting the edge of a table. She yelped in pain, "Damn it! Who the hell are you?!"
Hearing the commotion, Shen Du turned around and froze at the sight before him. The young girl stood there, shoulders trembling slightly, arms outstretched to shield him.
"Big brother! Big brother! Big brother!" The man on the ground felt Shen Du's grip tighten and quickly pleaded, "I'm gonna dislocate my shoulder! I apologize! Is that not enough?!"
Fuming with anger and embarrassment, the woman raised the jagged beer bottle again, aiming it at Yao Nian.
Shen Du's expression darkened immediately. He pulled Yao Nian behind him and swiftly blocked her with his hand, knocking the beer bottle from the woman's grasp.
