However, the moment Yao Nian kissed him, all her courage was completely drained.
In the next second, she hurriedly got out of the car, not even bothering to say goodbye before running into the villa, leaving Shen Du staring blankly behind her.
He was in a daze, raising his hand to touch his cheek, as if he could still feel the lingering warmth of her lips.
Back in her room, Yao Nian sat down on the edge of her bed, her expression vacant. She felt utterly flustered and decided to send a message to Xu Jiayi at three in the morning.
To her surprise, Xu Jiayi was still awake. She first sent a long string of exclamation marks and then immediately called her back.
"Oh my god!!!!"
Xu Jiayi's shrill voice came through the phone. Yao Nian quickly moved the phone away from her ear.
"So he kissed you first, and then you kissed him back?" Xu Jiayi asked excitedly.
Yao Nian pulled the comforter over her head and mumbled, "I lost control for a moment."
"You two really are something," Xu Jiayi said slowly, "It's all about reciprocity."
When Yao Nian fell silent, she continued to press, "And then what?"
"What do you mean 'and then what'?"
Xu Jiayi replied incredulously, "After kissing, aren't you supposed to confirm your relationship according to the script?"
Yao Nian paused for a few seconds before saying, "I went home."
Xu Jiayi was exasperated and lamented, "Are you stupid? If I say you're cowardly, you dare to kiss him; if I say you're not cowardly, how can you run away right after?"
"You mean..." Yao Nian asked weakly, "Should I have stayed for a confession?"
"What else? He’s already made his feelings so obvious; if you don’t seize the moment now, when will you?"
After hanging up the phone, Yao Nian fell back onto her soft mattress, staring blankly at the ceiling.
He said he wanted to treat her well. Did that mean he liked her too?
She let out a soft breath; it felt like his essence still lingered on her lips. Recalling the scene from earlier made her cheeks burn uncontrollably again.
The sea breeze and the rocks tonight both knew that this was her first kiss.
On the first day of the Lunar New Year, it seemed that another heavy snowfall had occurred in the early hours of the morning. In her dreams, Yao Nian vaguely heard a soft, delicate sound like a veil brushing against something.
As the snow began to clear, the lazy winter sunlight filtered through the sparse tree shadows and illuminated the room. She yawned and sleepily walked to the window, intending to pull the curtains shut and continue her nap.
The snow in the courtyard had piled up deeply, covering the ground in a pristine white blanket. Yao Nian's gaze froze, her tired eyes widening in astonishment.
There was a car quietly parked in the yard, its roof heavily blanketed with snow, frozen into a mound of white. The license plate was familiar. It was still at the spot where she had gotten out last night.
Without a moment to spare, Yao Nian turned and dashed out of her room, racing down the stairs.
Shen Du leaned against the car with his eyes gently closed. Hearing the sound of the door opening, he suddenly opened his eyes. The young girl stood before him, dressed only in a thin loungewear outfit, huddling her neck as if trying to shield herself from the cold wind that threatened to engulf her.
He quickly got out of the car, stepping into the snow to walk towards her, and took off his coat to drape it over her shoulders.
