She suddenly fell into his embrace.
He cleared his throat, "You want to run away after a kiss?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, Shen Du grasped the back of her head with one hand and tilted his head down to kiss her. Unlike that fleeting taste beneath the fireworks, his tongue easily slipped between her lips, entwining and caressing with a cool touch.
The crisp scent of pine filled the air, and the man's presence was overwhelming, leaving no time for her to react.
Yao Nian's eyes widened, her eyelashes fluttering slightly as she instinctively placed her hand on his shoulder. Shen Du countered by gripping her wrist, his arm tightening gradually as he deepened the kiss, greedily savoring her unique essence.
In the enclosed space, only their chaotic breaths remained.
She had never seen this side of Shen Du before; his hurried breathing was laced with a hint of primal desire. It was fervent.
Yao Nian felt her head spinning from the kiss, her chin tilting back as she responded awkwardly, her body growing increasingly soft and unsteady.
Outside the window, dusk deepened, and the streetlights on the bridge formed a warm yellow ribbon that reflected in the river below, casting a glow on their entwined silhouettes.
After a long moment, Shen Du noticed her breathing becoming more labored. He lingered with his tongue on her lips for a while longer before finally lifting his head.
The young girl nestled in his arm gasped for air, her eyes slightly reddened at the corners, misty with emotion, and her lips swollen from their passionate encounter.
Seeing her like this made Shen Du feel a twinge of guilt; it was both lingering and soothing as he gently pecked at her lips again and again.
Yao Nian's face flushed visibly, even reaching her ears. "What about your sauce?"
Shen Du couldn't help but chuckle as he tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Did I scare you?"
Yao Nian nodded honestly, "A little."
"Then can I apologize?"
Though he said that, there was no trace of remorse on his face; instead, it was adorned with a smile.
Shen Du picked up the remote from the coffee table and turned on the television. "You can play for a bit; I'm going to take a shower and think about what to eat later."
Yao Nian's gaze lingered on his face before it unconsciously drifted downward.
"Where are you looking?" Shen Du glanced at her.
She immediately withdrew her gaze, pretending to press the remote control against the television. The sound of running water from the bathroom made Yao Nian's tense nerves gradually relax. She randomly clicked on a movie, but she wasn't really paying attention to the screen at all.
Just as Shen Du emerged from the bathroom, he heard the doorbell ring. He put on his clothes and was about to head out to open the door when he heard a series of thuds—little footsteps had already rushed ahead to answer it.
Shen Du walked out of his room, dressed in a dark gray shirt and black cotton pants, and glanced at the delivery guy standing at the door. "Why did you order takeout? Didn't we say we would go out to eat?"
His hair was still damp, a hazy mist lingering around him, and the lines of his collarbone were slightly pronounced, with hints of his chest muscles visible. There was something inexplicably attractive about him.
Yao Nian silently averted her eyes, placing the insulated bag on the dining table. As she tore open the seal, she said, "It just feels like going out is such a hassle. You haven't had much rest these past few days and have been driving all day."
Shen Du smiled slightly as he took the food container from her hands and opened it. "You really know how to take care of people."
