In the dim light of the night, the young girl's voice carried a hazy, intoxicating allure.
"I won't dislike you," she said, her words flowing without hesitation, her heart and eyes filled with him.
He leaned down and kissed her forehead. "It's getting late; shall we head back?"
Yao Nian nodded in agreement.
Shen Du took her hand and walked to the car. Just as he opened the passenger door, footsteps approached from behind. "Wait."
The man walked leisurely towards them, his demeanor relaxed.
Xiao Chi glanced at their intertwined hands before turning to Yao Nian, handing her his phone. "You dropped this."
"Thank you," she replied.
As Shen Du reached out to take it, Xiao Chi suddenly withdrew his hand, fixing his gaze on the girl with a raised eyebrow. "I need to give it to the owner."
Shen Du instinctively sensed that the man's gaze held a different meaning—provocative, tinged with an inexplicable hostility.
Yao Nian, confused, accepted the phone. "Thanks."
Xiao Chi casually tucked his hand back into his pocket, a smirk playing on his lips. "Come by and hang out sometime."
Shen Du watched as he walked away before reopening the car door and helping Yao Nian inside.
At this hour, returning to the dorm was no longer an option, so he drove to a hotel near Huada.
Once they checked into their room, Lin Mo steadied herself against the wall and said with a teasing tone, "I'll take care of you; Yao Nian is all yours."
Shen Du handed her the room card. "What time do you have class tomorrow?"
"Nine o'clock."
"Alright," he nodded. "Then you should get some rest."
As soon as they entered the room, Yao Nian rushed into the bathroom and began to retch.
In the midst of it all, she pushed Shen Du away. "You... out."
Shen Du ignored her, gently lifting the hair that hung by her neck, stroking her back with a tender touch.
Later, Yao Nian's consciousness began to blur. In her hazy state, she felt herself enveloped in a warm embrace that carried the scent of pine. Shen Du removed her shoes and carried her to the bed, then took a towel to wipe her face clean.
The young girl lay with her eyes closed, her brows slightly furrowed. A flush spread from her neck to her collarbone, leaving patches of red on her skin. He tucked the blanket around her and let out a soft sigh.
When she woke up, Yao Nian felt a pounding headache, as if her head had been struck by a wooden fish all night long, sending sharp jolts through her nerves. She sat up in bed and looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings, feeling disoriented.
The door creaked open, and Shen Du walked in, neatly dressed and carrying a bag of breakfast. "Awake?" he asked.
He handed her a cup of honey water from the bedside. She took it and drank. The alcohol from last night hadn’t completely erased her memory; she quickly recalled what had happened and felt a wave of guilt wash over her.
Shen Du pulled out a bowl of congee from the bag, opened the lid, and glanced back at her. "Still feeling unwell?"
She took another sip of water and murmured, "My head hurts."
With his back turned to her, he replied flatly, "You deserve it."
Yao Nian knew she was in the wrong. Slowly, she climbed out of bed and wrapped her arms around his waist, resting her chin on his shoulder. "I’m sorry. I won’t drink that much again."
Seeing that Shen Du still wouldn’t respond to her, she tightened her grip and leaned against his back. However, she lost her balance and nearly slipped down again.
He reached back to steady her but maintained a stern expression.
Pouting didn’t work this time.
