Yao Nian jumped off him, exclaiming, "What more do you want from me? I had no idea that tequila would hit me so hard; otherwise, I definitely wouldn’t have drunk it."
Shen Du chuckled in frustration and turned to ask, "Is this your attitude towards admitting your mistake?"
She retorted defiantly, "Well, after we broke up, I was feeling down. If I had to drink, of course Lin Mo would come along to keep me company."
"I'm not stopping you from going out or trying to control you," Shen Du said with a stern face. "But at the very least, you should let me know. You didn’t answer your phone; do you have any idea how worried I was?"
He was indeed angry.
Yao Nian's voice dropped to a sulky tone. "I was too busy comforting her at that time and forgot to tell you."
The man remained expressionless.
She reached out a finger and gently poked his arm. "I'm sorry."
The girl pouted slightly, looking at him with eyes as innocent as a fawn.
Seeing her like this, Shen Du felt helpless against her charm. He sighed softly and decided to finish his porridge first.
Yao Nian's eyes lit up as she wrapped her arms around him like an octopus. "If you're not mad, I'll drink."
"Are you threatening me?" he asked with a raised eyebrow.
"I promise there won't be a next time."
Unable to hold back any longer, Shen Du leaned down and kissed her cheek. "From now on, you can't let me lose contact with you."
"Did you hear that?"
"Got it!"
After finishing her porridge, Yao Nian ran off to take a shower. When she came out, she clung to Shen Du, asking him to help dry her hair. Instantly feeling refreshed and much more comfortable.
By the way," Shen Du said casually as he put away the hairdryer, "who was that guy last night?"
Yao Nian glanced at the message Lin Mo had sent on WeChat, asking if she was awake and if she needed help taking a day off. It even included a dog emoji with a sideways glance.
She smiled while replying to Lin Mo and then looked up at Shen Du. "Which guy?"
"Come out and deliver the phone," she recalled. Oh, she lowered her head and continued typing. The bar owner was quite nice and even treated us to some draft beer.
Shen Du forced a smile, though it didn't quite reach his eyes.
Seeing that it was almost time, Yao Nian ran next door to knock on the door, calling Lin Mo and Fang Yiran to head back to school together. After Shen Du dropped them off at school, he drove to the law firm.
By the time classes started, Fang Yiran still looked like she was half-asleep, her face still bearing the signs of last night's hangover. Lin Mo glanced at the podium and whispered to Yao Nian, "Hey, send me that bar owner's WeChat from last night."
Yao Nian almost forgot. She opened her phone and found Xiao Chi's contact, sending it to her. The chat history was still stuck on the screen showing that they had successfully added each other as friends. She felt a bit puzzled; wasn't he supposed to be conducting a survey?
On the day of Ji Zheyuan's wedding, Shen Du served as the best man, welcoming guests at the entrance of the banquet hall alongside the newlyweds.
"Huh?" Ji Zheyuan checked his watch. "Why hasn't Yao Nian arrived yet?"
Shen Du thought that her exam should have been over by now, so he stepped aside to give her a call.
When the call connected, the noise from her side was quite loud.
"Are you done with your exam?"
"Yes, I'm just waiting in line at the vehicle management office."
Hearing her voice made Shen Du smile. "So, can my girl come pick me up from work in the future?"
