Yao Nian slowly shifted onto his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck. Feeling the softness of the girl close to him, Shen Du coughed lightly, "Aren't we going to review?"
"I need to recharge a bit before studying," he added.
"How do you plan to recharge?"
Yao Nian leaned closer to his ear and whispered, "Just give me a kiss."
Accompanied by a faint scent of lily of the valley, her soft voice flowed over his earlobe like an electric current. Shen Du hesitated for barely a moment before putting down his book, lifting her into his arms, and tilting her chin to seal her slightly parted lips with his own.
As their lips met, Yao Nian mischievously pushed aside his shirt. Just as her hand brushed against his lower back, Shen Du caught her wrist firmly.
His breath quickened slightly. "This is the office; you’re quite bold, aren’t you?"
Yao Nian glanced towards the door. "Is anyone coming in?"
"No one can enter without a password."
"Then what's the problem?" She blinked innocently, clearly sensing the change in him.
Her doe-like eyes sparkled with mischief, and half of her cardigan had slipped off during their kiss, exposing her fair and slender neck without any cover.
Before this little enchantress, Shen Du found it all too easy to break his own principles. He had to admit that sometimes principles were meant to be broken.
He loosened his tie and grabbed the remote from the coffee table, pressing a button. The curtains on either side of the floor-to-ceiling windows slowly closed, plunging the room into dim light.
The sofa sank beneath them as Yao Nian, though still inexperienced, had made considerable progress and even began to respond actively. It was this very action that made her tremble as she realized Shen Du had been holding back until now.
When the curtains opened again, light flooded back into the room. Yao Nian regretted teasing Shen Du; now her legs felt weak, leaving her unable to muster the strength to get up from the sofa.
She glared at the man who continued marking key points at his desk with an air of calmness that was worlds apart from his earlier ferocity.
Noticing her gaze, Shen Du paused with his pen and smiled. "What are you looking at me for?"
Yao Nian's eyes were filled with grievance as she slowly uttered four words: "A beast in human guise."
Shen Du looked innocent and asked, "Who started this first?"
"Even if it was me," she replied softly, "shouldn't you also cut back a bit?"
Shen Du closed the book and moved in front of her, gently massaging her ankle.
"There's no way around it; just looking at you makes it impossible to cut back."
After lunch, Shen Du somehow brought in a rattan chair and insisted that Yao Nian sit beside him to review.
Whenever she began to drift off, her thoughts barely having the chance to wander far, Shen Du would mercilessly tap the table and give her a meaningful glance.
Yao Nian suddenly felt a sense of pressure reminiscent of her senior year in high school.
It must be said that this method did significantly improve her study efficiency, especially when tackling those obscure and hard-to-memorize legal regulations. Shen Du always managed to find relevant cases to deepen her understanding.
In the following days, after tasting success, Yao Nian would regularly report to Shen Du's office on time. The most common scene was of the young girl sitting at the desk, furrowing her brows and writing furiously, while Shen Du conducted his usual work without avoiding her presence, occasionally glancing over at her with an involuntary softness in his eyes.
By the end of the week, everyone knew that the usually serious Shen Du had a younger girlfriend who was particularly eager to learn.
