His words struck him like a blow to the chest. Shen Du pulled the girl into his arms tightly, holding her so close that Yao Nian could feel the intense beating of his heart against her.
"Do you know," the man's voice was hoarse, trembling with barely contained emotion, "what if I don't make it in time, or if I'm a few hours late?" His unfinished words were swallowed by the lump in his throat.
Every scene from the private room replayed in Shen Du's mind, leaving him with a sense of dread. If Yao Nian had truly been bullied, he knew he would go mad.
That night, the young girl slept fitfully, her brows furrowing occasionally as she murmured indistinctly in her sleep, clearly frightened. Shen Du held her close, gently patting her back over and over, whispering, "Don't be afraid, I'm here."
In a half-dream state, Yao Nian unconsciously turned over, burying her face into his embrace. The familiar scent and warmth gradually soothed her, allowing her to drift into a deep sleep.
When Yao Zhandong learned of the incident, he exploded in anger over the phone, wishing he could grab a knife and confront the beast that had bullied Yao Nian.
The security bureau had already opened an investigation. Shen Du repeatedly assured that he would protect Yao Nian from now on and ensure that those two individuals faced legal consequences.
