On June 17, 2011, at 11 PM, Liu Guiduo of the Heilongjiang Gang and Bao De of the Inner Mongolia Gang conspired to hijack a ship to return home.
They first instructed Huang Jin Bo and Wang Peng to take control of the ship's communication and positioning systems. Then, armed with knives, they stormed into the captain's cabin and subdued Li Chengquan, demanding an immediate return to port, which was met with verbal refusal.
In response, Liu Guiduo and his accomplices stabbed Li Chengquan in the thigh and restrained him.
Realizing something was amiss, Qi Yong, the head chef from the Dalian Federation, climbed to the top deck with a knife to rescue the captain. Unbeknownst to him, Jiang Xiaolong and others were waiting there, resulting in Qi Yong being stabbed to death and thrown into the sea.
With the first death occurring, Pandora's box was officially opened, and fishing vessel Lu Rong Yu 2682 transformed into a hell on earth.
At this point, the hierarchy aboard the ship had been completely restructured, with Liu Guiduo at the top.
In the following month, he became increasingly paranoid, his mind twisting further. Even a fleeting glance in his direction would cause him to whip around violently, his eyes flashing with murderous intent.
By July 2011, as the fishing boat reached the western waters of Hawaii, Liu Guiduo noticed that Dalian Federation's chief engineer Wen Dou and Wang Yongbo were frequently whispering together. Suspicion arose within him; he felt they were plotting something.
Additionally, fuel consumption had suddenly skyrocketed several times over. If this continued, they wouldn't last until they returned home.
In response to this concern, chief engineer Wen Dou explained that a malfunction in the small engine necessitated running the larger fuel engine instead, promising that they would switch back once repairs were made.
Liu Guiduo, twisted in his beliefs, did not trust this explanation. He suspected that Captain Li and the Dalian Federation were harboring ulterior motives to overthrow his rule and decided that a major purge was necessary.
On the night of July 20, the second wave of killings began.
Notably, neutral parties Mei Lin Sheng and Feng Xingyan also joined in on the violence. Liu Guiduo led Wang Peng and two neutrals from the top deck captain's cabin to orchestrate their actions while blasting deafening music to cover up their deeds.
Bao De from the Inner Mongolia Gang led Jiang Xiaolong, Liu Chengjian, Huang Jin Bo, and others to lure Wen Dou and his brother Wen Mi out from their quarters under false pretenses of checking a broken squid fishing device. Taking advantage of their unpreparedness, they killed both men and disposed of their bodies in the sea before returning to murder Wang Yongbo in their quarters. You might think this was it; however, it was just beginning.
Next came the dormitory housing twelve people. Yue Peng, Liu Gang, Jiang Shutao, and others were killed one by one as blood splattered throughout the room.
Witnessing all of this was neutral party Ma Yuchao, whose mind completely shattered. Liu Guiduo saw Ma Yuchao trembling nearby and remarked mockingly, "Ma Yuchao, you’re watching closely; look how scared you are."
He then feigned concern as he approached to comfort him. "This has nothing to do with you; don’t worry. No one will kill you."
As dawn broke, everyone discovered that Ma Yuchao had completely vanished from the cabin.
Strangely, not a single life jacket or piece of rescue equipment was missing; no one knew where he had gone.
Even more unexpectedly, the slaughter continued. The assailants demanded money from crew members Chen Guojun, Bo Jun, and Wu Guozhi, and after obtaining what they wanted, they killed all three.
In total, ten people lost their lives.
"After collecting the money, they just killed them," one of the killers said expressionlessly, blood still staining his hands.
After a night drenched in blood, the management was entirely reshuffled. Captain Li Chengquan and crew members Duan Zhifang and Cui Yong, seeking to save themselves, voluntarily joined Liu Guiduo's group, while the other innocent crew members fell deeper into a state of extreme fear.
With his hands covered in blood, Liu Guiduo realized he could not escape unscathed. He planned to sneak into Japan and, to gather living expenses, he forced the remaining crew members to contact their families and transfer money to a designated account.
However, this action drew the ire of the Inner Mongolia Gang.
Bao De believed that Liu Guiduo was hoarding all the money for himself and would never be able to take everyone away. He intended to seize control of the ship and secretly incited Huang Jin Bo from the Northeast Gang, claiming that Liu Guiduo would kill everyone and that if they wanted to survive, they needed to follow him.
Unexpectedly, Huang Jin Bo was fiercely loyal to Liu Guiduo and immediately turned around to inform him. Upon learning everything, Liu Guiduo thought that a direct confrontation might not be wise. With a glint in his eye, he revealed a strange smile.
"There are a few people I can use: Captain Li Chengquan, Cui Yong, and Duan Zhifang. They've been desperately trying to prove their loyalty; now is their chance," he murmured to himself.
Three days later, on July 24th, the third wave of killings began.
Captain Li Chengquan lured Bao De out and stabbed him before forcing him to jump into the sea. Other members of the Inner Mongolia Gang also met with brutal fates.
First Mate Li Yizhong and crew members Ding Yumin and Song Guochun secretly jumped onto a raft carrying rescue supplies in an attempt to escape.
Fate played a cruel trick; due to the turbulent waves, the raft drifted for a while before inexplicably returning near the fishing boat.
Yet the captain who should have been just—Li Chengquan—was filled with malice.
He suggested to Liu Guiduo, "What if they manage to escape and expose us? We absolutely cannot let them leave alive."
Thus, the fourth massacre began. The ruthless Liu Guiduo and his gang, armed with harpoons, killed three people but spared Song Guochun. Why was that?
Was it a sudden attack of conscience?
No, the truth was chilling and utterly inhumane.
It turned out that there were two accomplices on the ship who had never killed anyone, Xiang Lishan and Duan Zhifang. Liu Guiduo needed to ensure that both of them were stained with blood; only then would there be no turning back.
So, the two bound Song Guochun and weighted him down before throwing him into the sea.
At that moment, only eleven people remained on the ship, and each one had blood on their hands.
Due to damage to the vessel, they were left with no choice but to call for rescue.
Liu Guiduo's gang falsely claimed that the ship had been hijacked, but during questioning, many details did not match up, leading to their exposure.
In the end, Liu Guiduo, Jiang Xiaolong, Liu Chengjian, Huang Jin Bo, and Li Chengquan were sentenced to death, while the others faced varying degrees of punishment.
What do you think could have been done at that time to prevent this massacre?
At last, the case was finally solved.
