"Mom, don't worry! I will definitely take good care of Brother!"
"Blind date? Mom, please don't set me up..."
At that moment, she had no mood for anything else. After dealing with her mother, Yun Youyou hung up the phone and cast a resentful glance at the operating room.
Although Zhou Jun was usually difficult and a bit twisted, she didn't want to harm him! She was just watering the flowers on the balcony when he happened to walk by downstairs, and she accidentally knocked over a flower pot...
The door to the operating room opened, and the doctor stepped out, removing his mask and letting out a heavy sigh. "Miss, we did our best."
Yun Youyou felt her head buzz as if all sound had vanished.
One thought consumed her mind: had she just become a murderer? What were the chances of successfully escaping abroad now?
Yun Youyou had stayed at the hospital all night, racking her brain for what to say when Zhou Jun woke up.
Given his usual stubbornness and difficulty in dealing with people, he would surely give her a good scolding.
"You can't blame me; you brought this on yourself! Who told you to stand under my flower pot?" Yun Youyou muttered softly, practicing her lines repeatedly until she felt a bit more confident. Then she glared fiercely and declared, "I was the one who brought you to the hospital! If you dare to repay my kindness with malice, I’ll pluck all the fur off your dog Puff!" It was well known that Puff was Zhou Jun's dog—fat and proud.
Just as she felt satisfied with her rehearsed speech, Yun Youyou suddenly caught sight of a pair of eyes staring at her in surprise.
"You’re awake?"
"Who are you?" Zhou Jun looked at her timidly, glancing around before asking, "Auntie, where is my mom?"
Yun Youyou's first instinct was to hit him. Who called her 'Auntie'? She was still young! But looking at his innocent expression, her smile gradually faded.
After the diagnosis, the doctor said that Zhou Jun had suffered brain damage and his intelligence had regressed to that of a three-year-old. While there was a possibility of recovery, there were no guarantees.
Yun Youyou pouted as she looked at the silly Zhou Jun; she truly felt like crying without tears.
Just as Yun Youyou was about to put her escape plan into action, she was abruptly grabbed by the strong and sturdy Old Nurse. "What will happen to this person if you leave?"
"I'm not doing it on purpose! He’s not dead, and I didn’t kill him!" She certainly didn’t want to end up in jail!
Old Nurse couldn’t help but chuckle, "Who said he’s dead? Sure, he got hit on the head, but it didn’t injure anything vital." Yun Youyou's face turned beet red as she glanced at the doctor who had just said he would "do his best." She thought to herself that it was unfair to create such misunderstandings; it was enough to scare someone half to death.
To save on medical expenses, Yun Youyou brought Zhou Jun back home. He pitifully said, "Auntie, I’m hungry."
"If you call me Auntie one more time, I won’t be polite!" Yun Youyou shouted angrily, "Just stay here and don’t move!"
Feeling gloomy, Yun Youyou stepped outside. She regretted her decision; had she known better than to help her brother check the house, this unfortunate incident wouldn’t have happened!
On her way back from grocery shopping, a sandy-colored dog came running towards her with eager eyes. It took her a moment to recognize it. "Puff?" she thought. How did this proud Golden Retriever end up like this? Oh right, she was the culprit.
With the intention of doing a good deed, Yun Youyou brought Puff home. Just as she reached the door, a woman’s loud voice rang out, "Oh ho ho! How long have you been with Youyou?"
"Mom!"
Yun Youyou instantly felt a headache coming on.
"What are you doing here?"
"You’re hiding a man and expect me not to come?" Mother Yun teased with a wink and added, "Just like my daughter; you have good taste."
Puff wagged its tail in front of Zhou Jun, and Yun Youyou shot Zhou Jun an annoyed glance. "Go wash it up!"
As she spoke, she pulled out some chips and handed them to him. "Eat this first if you’re hungry."
Just as Mother Yun was about to say something about how one shouldn’t treat their future son-in-law like that, Yun Youyou quickly pulled her mother inside and explained everything in detail. Mother Yun couldn’t help but scold her and even lamented, "Tsk tsk, such a fine young man has been ruined by you."
Yun Youyou felt speechless. What was so fine about him?
Her mother didn’t know Zhou Jun’s true nature; that guy was sharp-tongued and had previously thought of her as someone involved in a certain line of work! They had argued fiercely on her very first day moving in! Was this some sort of divine retribution?
Mother Yun's eyes twinkled as she said, "He will get better, Youyou. You must seize the opportunity! You have to win him over!"
"Mom!"
"Hehe, actually, I wouldn't mind if you gave me a grandson first..."
Yun Youyou's eyes widened in shock. She thought to herself that she had no interest in a three-year-old child in that way. If she were to get involved with him, wouldn’t that be considered inappropriate? That was out of the question!
After sending her chaos-loving mother away, Yun Youyou felt her legs weaken from exhaustion. Zhou Jun silently watched her, and when their eyes met, her heart skipped a beat. She was surprised to find her heart racing!
At that moment, Zhou Jun said, "Auntie, I'm hungry."
Yun Youyou's fleeting thoughts vanished instantly. She realized that she had been daydreaming about a three-year-old child and wondered if she was going crazy thinking about men. Did she really have to listen to her mother and go on blind dates?
"I'm scared to sleep," he added.
Yun Youyou thought that if she called his mother now, it would probably give her a heart attack...
She couldn’t possibly say that she was hiding him at home out of guilt...
"Well then, you can sleep here."
