At that time, Rao Jie was not particularly interested in Wu Rong, so she did not ask why he had returned. The fact that Wu Rong came back to Yun Cheng was something his parents were unaware of; it was entirely his own decision. Now, however, it was clear that Wu Rong had encountered something unpleasant while in Cambridge.
Rao Jie wanted to ask Wu Xin about it but felt it would be inappropriate to inquire about Wu Rong behind his back. After some thought, she decided it would be best to find an opportunity to ask Wu Rong directly.
Just as she was contemplating this, a freshly washed Wu Rong suddenly embraced Rao Jie from behind, planting tender kisses along her neck.
"You smell so good. I’ve missed your desserts. By the way, I have a great place to take you tomorrow; I’ve already looked it up, and you’re going to love it," he said, nibbling playfully as he moved downwards, one hand reaching around her waist to untie her bathrobe while the other slipped into the overlapping collar of her clothing.
Rao Jie quickly grabbed Wu Rong's hand. She truly had no defense against him; whenever he got close, touched her, or spoke in that deep voice, she found herself utterly unable to resist. However, if she didn’t stop him now, by tomorrow morning, her mind would likely be blank about everything that had just happened.
She wanted to know more about Wu Rong. Since whatever had affected him so deeply was significant, she felt it necessary to understand.
"Wu Rong, I have something to ask you," Rao Jie said, her voice slightly altered.
Wu Rong had been half-closed in a daze when Rao Jie suddenly spoke up. He reluctantly opened his eyes and couldn’t help but push forward with his hips. With a hint of impatience, he asked, "Are you sure you want to talk about this now?"
Rao Jie felt her face flush from the pressure and her legs weaken, but she still mustered the determination to push Wu Rong back onto the bed. She knelt beside him and said earnestly, "Let’s talk now unless you don’t want to tell me."
Wu Rong stared at Rao Jie blankly before letting out a resigned sigh.
Rao Jie realized what was happening. "You’re deliberately avoiding this conversation with me," she began but then trailed off in frustration. Not wanting to force the issue, she rolled into the covers and said, "If you don’t want to talk about it, I won’t push you."
Wu Rong quickly followed her under the covers and wrapped his arms around her from behind. "Don’t be like that; don’t be mad at me. I’m not trying to hide anything from you."
Rao Jie turned onto her side to face him. Although she felt a bit shy in such close proximity, she had been influenced by Wu Rong’s nonchalance. Since they were sharing a hotel room now, she decided to let go of her awkwardness for once.
"I’m not angry; it’s just that Nina’s appearance has clearly affected your mood, and as your girlfriend, I feel completely out of the loop. Even if I want to comfort you, I don’t know where to start."
Wu Rong smiled weakly yet appreciatively at her words and wrapped his arms around her slender waist. "If you want to comfort me, I’ll tell you the best way: either make me some desserts or be my dessert."
Rao Jie pushed him playfully but found that he didn’t budge. "I’m not joking," he insisted.
"I’m serious too," Wu Rong replied earnestly. "Just having you by my side is comforting for me. Right now, I feel very happy; no matter what happened in the past, at least I met you. Just thinking about that makes it hard for anything else to disturb my mood anymore. When I first returned home, I was indeed feeling terrible, but then you showed up and gradually changed my feelings for the better. You chased away all my unhappiness; if it weren’t for running into Nina today, I wouldn’t even think about those things anymore."
