Lan Zhi and Xian Ni, two first-year university students, were undeniably beautiful, attracting the attention of many boys. Unfortunately, both of them were already in relationships. Lan Zhi's boyfriend was named A Xin, while Xian Ni's was A Wang; both were first-year students at the same university but not in the same department.
As summer vacation approached, during a break between classes, Lan Zhi, Xian Ni, and another female student named Li Xiaohong were chatting together. Li Xiaohong had taken several years to finally get into the school, making her a few years older than Lan Zhi and Xian Ni, who affectionately referred to her as their older sister. Li Xiaohong disliked her name and preferred everyone to call her by her English name, Nina.
Recently, Xian Ni had been arguing with her boyfriend A Wang and was contemplating breaking up. Meanwhile, Li Xiaohong had previously dated several boys without success and began criticizing the male gender. Lan Zhi remained silent, which prompted dissatisfaction from both Xian Ni and Nina.
“Lan Zhi!” Nina exclaimed. “You shouldn’t be too trusting of men!”
“You don’t know,” Xian Ni chimed in with a hint of jealousy. “Lan Zhi and her boyfriend are really close; it’s not like we’re as unfortunate as we are!”
“No, it’s not like that!” Lan Zhi said shyly. “But he really is a good guy.”
“Oh my!” Nina teased. “You’re still defending him.”
Lan Zhi merely smiled and chose not to say more. Soon after, class resumed, and Xian Ni sat next to Nina as they whispered to each other.
“We should help Lan Zhi see the true nature of men!” Nina suggested.
“Yeah! But how do we do that?” Xian Ni agreed, although she had ulterior motives; if Lan Zhi fought with A Xin, she could take advantage of the situation.
They began to devise a plan. First, Xian Ni knew A Xin well and had successfully flirted with him before. So she decided to approach him for help that evening, confident it would work. However, since Xian Ni lived in the dormitory, they planned to invite A Xin to Nina’s rented room near the school. They would then try to seduce him together; he would surely find it hard to resist. If Lan Zhi happened to walk in at that moment, she would undoubtedly confront A Xin, leading to a fallout between them. With everything arranged, they set their plan into motion.
The next day at noon, Xian Ni found A Xin and asked him for a favor that evening. A Xin remembered her provocative behavior from before and was immediately aroused by the thought of it. He quickly agreed and arranged to meet Xian Ni at six that evening while coming up with an excuse to cancel his date with Lan Zhi.
Meanwhile, during an afternoon class, Nina approached Lan Zhi under the pretense of borrowing some interesting books and invited her to come by her room at seven that night. When Lan Zhi asked for the location, she learned that Nina lived in the same building as Wen Zhuang.
Wen Zhuang was their class representative, and Lan Zhi had once spent a passionate night with him.
At six o'clock that evening, A Xin met Xian Ni at their designated spot. He suggested they go out for dinner first; however, Xian Ni claimed she needed to meet a friend first. A Xin felt conflicted.
“Or…” Xian Ni proposed, “we could buy takeout and bring it over to her place!”
A Xin still hesitated, but Xian Ni playfully insisted, “Come on! After we eat, I can spend the whole evening with you.”
Reluctantly swayed by her charm and unwilling to leave just yet, A Xin finally agreed. They grabbed some food from a nearby restaurant and headed toward Nina's place. Nina lived on the fourth floor of the building; when they arrived at her door, Xian Ni knocked lightly until Nina opened it and welcomed them inside.
The student rooms were small; A Xin placed the food on the table but was unsure what to do next.
“This is A Xin,” Xian Ni introduced him while omitting that Nina was also in their class. A Xin assumed she was an upperclassman.
