The rain poured down heavily as Ling Ran gazed at the swirling raindrops outside while answering the phone. 0

"Let her cry in the rain; don't pay her any mind," he said to the person on the other end, who responded softly in agreement. 0

A night passed, and the rain showed no signs of stopping. 0

The next day, when Ling Ran arrived at the church, Wanling had already fainted, collapsed at the entrance with her clothes soaked through. He cursed under his breath, got out of the car, and lifted Wanling into it, speeding back home. 0

In her dazed state, Wanling felt as if she were dreaming, as if Qin Guan had come back to life and was holding her gently. She clung to him tightly, murmuring, "Qin Guan, don't leave me again. Please, I won't deceive you anymore; I love you." 0

She continued, "Qin Guan, this time I won't let you go even if it costs me my life." 0

Ling Ran listened, moved by her words. He wondered if all her feelings were merely a facade; why then did she seem so devastated by Qin Guan's death? 0

He stared at the pale-faced woman before him. Though she appeared somewhat sickly, her delicate features were still striking. 0

Ling Ran recalled how charming and lovely she had been when he first met her. However, the events of the following morning had filled him with disdain. 0

At that time, he couldn't bear to look at her for fear that seeing her would make him forget the memory of that charming girl or that he might be unable to suppress his compassion for her. So he resolutely turned away. 0

He had thought that if she loved only his wealth, he would use money to possess her. 0

But such a woman who troubled his heart—if he could not love her, then all that remained was hatred, an endless hatred. 0

When he saw her again, she was with Qin Guan. In that moment, he could not distinguish whether his feelings were anger or jealousy. 0

Ling Ran could only see that when Wanling looked at him, her eyes were filled with wariness, while her gaze towards Qin Guan was filled with unreserved trust and affection. 0

He would rather break them apart than see her smile at another man, even if that man was his most beloved relative. Ling Ran found it difficult to explain this strange feeling, which only fueled his hatred for Wanling. 0

In the midst of her dreams, Wanling suddenly pulled his hand towards herself, whispering, "Don't go, Qin Guan, don't go..." 0

In the darkness, Ling Ran could imagine her expression, pitiful like an abandoned puppy, making it hard for him to inflict any more pain. 0

Wanling's hand was icy cold, yet her skin was delicate and smooth. Ling Ran felt as if he had been bewitched; despite his deep-seated hatred for the person on the bed, he wished that the name she called out was not Qin Guan but his own. 0

The next day, when Wanling woke up, it was already close to noon. 0

She looked around the unfamiliar room, and when Ling Ran pushed the door open and entered, she instinctively shrank back under the blanket in fear. Seeing this, Ling Ran frowned deeply, feeling quite displeased. 0

"Get up and eat when you're well," Ling Ran said after a pause. "If someone didn’t know better, they might think I was abusing my fellow countrymen. I brought you back simply because we come from the same country." 0

Two hours later, Ling Ran entered the room again and noticed that Wanling had not eaten a single grain of rice. 0

"Get up! It's time to eat!" He shouted at Wanling, but she remained unresponsive. 0

"Get up! If you don't, I'll have to feed you myself." Ling Ran looked down at her vacant eyes and for some reason felt a sudden pang of pity in his heart. 0

Wanling still did not move. Ling Ran picked up a bowl of congee and leaned down to feed her, but she suddenly began to struggle violently. 0

"Don't touch me!" She pushed Ling Ran away with all her strength, her voice hoarse. "I hate you! Just go!" Her eyes were filled with wariness as she glared at him, and in that moment, Ling Ran felt as if his heart had plunged into an ice pit. 0

"Just go... Give me back Qin Guan, just go..." Wanling sobbed, clutching the blanket. 0

Though she had cried many times before without affecting him, this time, Ling Ran felt a heavy tug at his heart. 0

He wanted to reach out and pull Wanling into his arms to comfort her, but in the end, he didn't dare to lift his hand to touch her. 0

Finally, he turned and left silently. 0

That night, Wanling fell asleep early, while Ling Ran quietly lay beside her. Throughout the night, he could hear her murmuring in her dreams: "Qin Guan... Qin Guan..." 0

As dawn broke, Ling Ran got up early and left. 0

However, that day, Wanling woke up earlier than usual. By then, her body had mostly recovered. 0

Rubbing her sleepy eyes open, she saw the familiar features of the person beside her and instinctively wanted to smile and kiss him. But in an instant, she remembered that Qin Guan was already gone. 0

"Get away!" 0

She pushed Ling Ran away with force. He woke up startled and saw Wanling's face filled with wariness, which left him feeling inexplicably unsettled. 0
