"They originally planned to kidnap Huo Xueqi from the neighboring class. Huo Xueqi's father is a renowned Real Estate Tycoon, and it seemed he had offended someone. Unfortunately, they mistook their target and ended up abducting me, a girl from a poor background. The kidnappers were clearly unwilling to accept this mistake and attempted to coerce Father Huo into compliance using the life of an innocent girl as leverage, but they failed. Their anger was palpable; I could hear their curses even through the door."
"In the end, I cried myself into exhaustion and fell into a deep sleep without realizing it, only to be awakened shortly after by the sound of someone kicking the door."
Yunsu tightly held Lin Xue's hand, sensing something and signaling her not to continue.
"Yes, you must have guessed it. The man with the scar on his face burst in, reeking of alcohol, and he assaulted me."
"That face often haunts me, waking me from nightmares. I didn't know who he was back then, but now I remember everything. I don't know how I managed to hold on until the police arrived. All I saw was that face being beaten to a pulp in front of me."
"When the police came, I had fainted. When I woke up, I had lost my memory. My mother told me I had been in a car accident. Huo Xueqi's father often came to visit me and brought a lot of money for my mother; he covered all my medical expenses."
"My mother said he was the one who hit me with his car. But at that time, I felt no resentment; instead, I found him kind and gentle."
With that, Lin Xue let out a long sigh.
Expressing her pain did bring her some solace.
"Both Huo Xueqi and I have long hair and somewhat similar features. Sometimes in the hallway, people would mistake me for her; even our names are quite similar. No wonder I became a scapegoat."
San Zhua suddenly understood and exclaimed in agreement before asking with a puzzled expression, "Then why did you change your name?"
Yunsu elbowed her sharply, nearly knocking her off the table.
San Zhua was left feeling bewildered, crying out in confusion.
"Actually, my mother changed my name to help me distance myself from that painful memory. Not only did she change my name, but we even moved our entire family away from my birthplace, leaving behind that place of sin. I know my mother quit her job and came to H City to find work as an accountant."
"Well, I feel much better now, as if I've scraped away the rotten flesh from my scar. Though it hurts terribly, there is hope for healing. Hehe, am I being a bit too sentimental?" Lin Xue said with tears in her eyes, smiling as she embraced her two close friends tightly.
The days that followed were peaceful, and nothing horrifying happened in the bathroom again.
However, Lin Xue began to feel uneasy. Every time she bathed in the bathroom, a wave of sadness would wash over her.
This sadness might stem from that girl. Lin Xue often pondered that perhaps she was just longing for a close friend, someone who could share her pain.
Sometimes, when passing by the bathroom door and seeing the lock on it, Lin Xue would wonder if there really were ghosts in this world. If so, there should be places for them to go. Why was that poor soul locked inside unable to reach her rightful resting place? What did all this have to do with her? How could she help her find peace?
At times, when she lightly touched the bathroom door, Lin Xue could sense an unusual feeling that convinced her she had a responsibility to save the Long-Haired Girl from her suffering. She shared this thought with Yunsu and San Zhua but was met with strong opposition from San Zhua.
San Zhua believed Lin Xue should not put herself in danger; the last crisis had nearly cost her life.
"Do you really want to risk your life for hers? Haven't you seen those horror movies? Ghosts can only reincarnate after harming someone. You can't be that foolish!"
After that, the three of them did their utmost to search for any clues about the Long-Haired Girl and Le Xue.
