Her wrist was firmly restrained, and Zhao Xinru was forcefully pressed down onto the bed by Ye Jingwen. As the collar of her light blue qipao, embroidered with delicate floral patterns, was torn apart, her clothing slipped away, revealing her alluring curves. The tears she had held back for so long finally overflowed, streaming down her cheeks.
At that moment, the door was kicked open with a loud bang. Ye Jingwen turned abruptly, but before he could comprehend the situation, he was struck violently on the head with the butt of a gun. He fell towards the foot of the bed, blood gushing from his wound, his face contorting into a terrifying grimace.
“If you don’t want to die, get out!” A gun was pressed against his forehead.
“I... I’m leaving...” Ye Jingwen stammered in sheer terror, clutching his bleeding head as he stumbled away in a panic before the other party completely lost control.
“Lieutenant...” The aide beside him opened his mouth to speak but was met with Su Yunxiang's wrath.
“Get out!” His face was ashen, twisted in anger.
The aide, taken aback by the lieutenant's unusual display of emotion, quickly complied with a nervous nod. Zhao Xinru wrapped herself tightly in the blanket, hiding from view. She had no understanding of what the military rank represented; she only knew that everyone’s expression changed to one of fear at the sight of him, indicating that his position must be significant.
“Damn it!” Su Yunxiang kicked the foot of the bed in frustration.
The bed shook slightly, causing Zhao Xinru's heart to race. With tear-filled eyes, she hesitated for a long moment before summoning the courage to explain herself. However, before she could utter a word, Su Yunxiang interrupted her sharply.
“Zhao Xinru, is this how low you’ve sunk? To have a child, does it matter who the man is? What did that woman promise you?”
Tears clung to her cheeks as Zhao Xinru froze in her movements. “So this is how you truly see me… Yes, I am what you say I am. As long as my mother says it’s for the good of the Shen Family, I must comply. After all, I am the daughter-in-law of the Shen Family; I have this responsibility…”
“Bullshit!” Su Yunxiang suddenly yanked off his military cap and unfastened his collar buttons, his movements appearing increasingly agitated.
As he approached step by step, Zhao Xinru's face changed dramatically. "What do you want?"
"What do you think I want? You know very well. Last time, you did it thoroughly. Besides, isn't this just what you want? This way, you can report back to that woman." His large hand reached behind her head, gripping tightly and pulling her close, as Su Yunxiang lowered his head, his kiss descending like a torrential storm.
"Ah—" Zhao Xinru let out a pained moan, her body firmly restrained, wanting to resist but powerless to do so. Finally, when he paused to catch his breath, she exclaimed in agitation, "No... you can't..."
"But I will make you understand who truly can." As his domineering words left his lips, the sound of tearing satin echoed through the room.
In the middle of the night, Zhao Xinru developed a low fever, slipping into a dream mixed with memories of the past.
That day, the sunset was as red as blazing fire. On her way back home to pay respects to her ancestors, Zhao Xinru never expected to encounter robbers along the way. When the bandits pointed their guns at her and Xiao Cui's heads, robbing them of all their money and attempting to abduct her as their mountain wife, a gunshot rang out across the sky. Su Yunxiang appeared like a messenger of justice, radiating a reassuring light.
As both sides were at a standoff, Xiao Cui accidentally stepped into thin air and fell down the slope. Without thinking, Zhao Xinru lunged forward and grabbed her hand tightly, the steep cliff cutting into her arm. Seizing the opportunity, Xiao Cui found a protruding rock to stand on; just as she regained her balance, Zhao Xinru lost hers and fell before her eyes. In a panic, she shouted "Young Mistress," only to see a man leap down in front of her.
The scene shifted to inside a cave, where flickering flames cast a red glow throughout. Su Yunxiang threw dry branches into the fire and yelled at her furiously, "Are you trying to get yourself killed? Falling from such a height could shatter your bones!"
"And what about you? Didn't you jump down too?" Zhao Xinru blinked her large almond-shaped eyes and replied calmly.
Su Yunxiang was momentarily speechless; his words caught in his throat. He couldn't scold her nor remain silent. After staring at her for a long time, he finally asked, "Is it worth it for a servant?"
"Of course it is; that is also a life." Beneath her long eyelashes, her eyes were filled with determination, shining brightly.
The dry branches crackled loudly as they burned fiercely in the fire.
Su Yunxiang gazed intently at her exquisite features, his complex emotions gradually shrouded in a veil of mist. She resembled a figure from his childhood memories, tightening the grip on all his thoughts…
