Director Wang handed over the money and then looked at Wang Jiefang, sighing, "Jiefang, if you ever need anything, just come to Auntie. I will definitely help you!"
Hearing Director Wang's words, Wang Jiefang seized the opportunity to respond, "Director Wang, you said you wanted me to work in the street office kitchen. How could I refuse?"
Director Wang felt troubled by his response. When she learned that Wang Jiefang had completed his training and obtained a chef's certificate, she had planned to let him be the head chef at the street office since their current cook was about to retire. However, things had taken an unexpected turn; now that Wang Jiefang was blind, it was a miracle that he didn’t need someone to take care of him, so how could he possibly work?
Worried about hurting Wang Jiefang's feelings, Director Wang found herself at a loss for words.
Wang Jiefang noticed her dilemma and took the initiative to speak up. "Director, how about this: I’ll work at the street office for a month as a trial period. If my eyesight affects my work during that time, I’ll voluntarily leave. What do you think?"
Upon hearing Wang Jiefang's suggestion, Director Wang still felt uneasy. How could a blind person manage to cook? The kitchen was filled with fire and hot water; if something went wrong, it could lead to serious trouble!
"Jiefang, I know you want to find a job to ease the burden at home, but you also know that the kitchen can be quite dangerous. I really can’t put my mind at ease about this."
Wang Jiefang understood that Director Wang was reluctant for him to work in the kitchen, but he couldn’t tell her that he could use his mental energy to sense his surroundings!
After waking up, he realized that in order to live in this era, he needed a job! Although he had enough resources in his space for himself and his grandmother to live on, given the peculiar circumstances of this time, he couldn’t dare take them out for use!
To eat well and earn money legitimately, he needed a job! And now he had an opportunity; he had to seize it!
"Auntie Wang, I know you're concerned about me. How about this: let me work in the street office cafeteria without any help from anyone. If I can complete my tasks independently without any issues, then let me continue working there. What do you think?"
Wang Jiefang's grandmother looked at Director Wang with pleading eyes as well. Director Wang glanced between Wang Jiefang and the elderly woman and thought about how hard life had been for them since Wang Jiefang's father sacrificed himself. Now that he had expressed his determination so clearly, she felt her heart soften and agreed.
"Alright then, Jiefang. You rest at home for a few days and start at the street office next week."
Director Wang thought that if necessary, she would remind the kitchen staff to keep an eye on him. If there were any dangers, they could stop him quickly! It would be good for him to try and see if he could handle it.
"Thank you, Auntie Wang!" With her agreement, a smile spread across Wang Jiefang's face.
"What are you thanking me for? No need to be polite with Auntie!"
Director Wang shook her head as she looked at him. "Sigh! What a good kid; it's such a shame!"
Having more work to attend to, she finished speaking and left.
Once Director Wang was gone, his grandmother turned to him with concern. "Jiefang, do you think you can manage working in the kitchen? If not, we can forget it; Grandma can take on more work to support you!"
While Director Wang was present earlier, his grandmother had refrained from stopping him out of fear of discouraging her grandson. Now that she saw Director Wang’s approval, her worries resurfaced about whether her grandson would be alright!
