The man in black fixed his piercing gaze on the Gold Button. "What do you mean?"
Zeng Liang smiled and replied, "Do you know that I asked ten people about this object? Their answer was unanimous: it's a button, the Gold Button."
Zeng Liang continued, "Everyone only knows it as a Gold Button! But you not only recognized it as a Gold Button, but you also immediately identified it as a cufflink. At that moment, I couldn't help but wonder if you had seen this Gold Button before, or if you were the one who handed it to Shan Jie to draw out Deng Gang."
The man in black said, "You're right; that was my oversight. What about the other point?"
Zeng Liang maintained his smile. "Do you know that tonight not only did a prison break occur, but something even more astonishing happened?" His eyes brightened as he paused for a moment. "Deng Gang, who was supposed to be dead, actually came back to life! A dead person cannot possibly resurrect, and it is utterly absurd to think of someone faking their death... unless someone wanted him to come back."
"Oh? Why would anyone want a dead person to come back?" the man in black asked coldly.
"For this." Zeng Liang said as he pulled out a silver needle about an inch long from his pocket, gently swaying it in the dim morning light. The man in black sighed and said, "Zeng Liang, you truly are impressive."
Zeng Liang chuckled. "I have always found it puzzling how a seasoned martial artist could be killed by a dose of Ruan Xiang San. Even if he were unable to exert strength and fell down the stairs, he should have had enough time to protect his head during the fall. This is the most basic ability of a martial artist, yet he ended up with a massive hole in his skull. The only reason for this outcome is that Deng Gang was already dead before he fell down the stairs."
Zeng Liang's tone grew colder as he continued, "I had no clue about Deng Gang's true cause of death because there were no other injuries on him! However, during last night's banquet, I happened to see Zhang Biao become mute after having his tongue pierced. That was when everything clicked! After the banquet last night, I arrived at the Coroner's Office before you and took this silver needle. It was this needle that pierced Deng Gang's tongue meridian and took his life! Moreover, I found another identical silver needle hidden in your room."
The man in black fell silent. Zeng Liang pressed on, "As for the so-called resurrection, it was merely your attempt to retrieve the silver needle from Deng Gang's mouth that happened to be interrupted by Wang Long and Song Hui, resulting in a farce. However, you acted decisively by taking Deng Gang's head, thinking that would bring peace to the world, not realizing that the item was no longer in Deng Gang's mouth."
After pointing out these two flaws, Zeng Liang pulled Li Changjiang closer to him and confronted the man in black. "Now that we have these two points of suspicion along with Li Changjiang as a witness, do you still wish to deny it?" Zeng Liang's gaze sharpened as he called out loudly, "My master Sun!"
The man in black burst into laughter and yanked at his waist pouch. A severed head rolled onto the ground with a thud—it was Deng Gang's head. The man in black tore away his face veil, revealing himself as Mou Shui's local magistrate and the mastermind behind this conspiracy—Sun Man.
A cold, feminine smile spread across the fair, plump face of Sun Man as he clapped his hands and said, "Good, good! As expected of Zeng Liang. You are absolutely right; it was I who intentionally left Deng Gang's Gold Button in Shan Jie's hands to draw out Deng Gang's suspicion. Likewise, I was the one who killed Deng Gang, using the silver needle that you hold. As the saying goes, those in high positions are often greedy. I am someone who loves money. When I heard that a rare treasure had appeared in my territory of Mou Shui city, I certainly couldn't let this opportunity slip by. Unfortunately, I had seen the craftsman who worked on the jade before; when I saw him beside Li Changjiang, I knew right away that the treasure in Li Changjiang's hands was mostly fake. Thus, I shifted my focus from the ancient jade to other targets."
Listening intently, Zeng Liang's eyes brightened as he interjected, "Deng Gang's fortune?"
"Exactly!" Sun Man replied readily. "Deng Gang is one of the wealthiest men in Mou Shui city, but like me, he has a significant flaw—greed. He was already quite rich; no one could compare to him in Mou Shui city, yet he remained unsatisfied and wanted more money. So I devised a plan to have him sell his fake jade."
Zeng Liang nodded slightly and glanced at Li Changjiang before asking, "And then you found Li Changjiang?"
"Yes," Sun Man confirmed with a nod. "To deal with Deng Gang, I needed an insider, and Li Changjiang was the best candidate. I kept a close watch on Deng Gang's every move while he remained completely unaware! Just when he was about to finalize a deal with Shan Jie, I suddenly appeared before Shan Jie. Knowing my identity and with Li Changjiang's testimony, Shan Jie had no choice but to believe me."
"So Shan Jie decided not to proceed with the transaction and even had a fierce argument with Deng Gang, threatening to report him! Fearing that Shan Jie would indeed expose him, Deng Gang acted swiftly and killed Shan Jie!" Zeng Liang recounted.
Sun Man nodded in satisfaction. "I gradually realized that we have great synergy together; if we join forces, we can achieve remarkable things."
Zeng Liang smiled lightly and replied, "Is that so? I don't quite think so. Although you are an official, you are also a criminal of great severity. It seems there is little synergy left for us to discuss."
A sly smile returned to Sun Man's fair face as he said, "Is that really the case? Since you already know that I orchestrated all of this and have evidence in hand yet only brought one person to see me, doesn't that imply you have other intentions?"
Zeng Liang glanced at Li Changjiang and Wang Long beside him; an unusual glint flickered in his bright eyes as he stepped forward and said, " master Sun truly possesses keen insight; I find myself lacking in comparison. Indeed, I wish to discuss a deal with you."
Sun Man smiled without speaking.
