Zeng Liang said, "I know very well that even if I reveal everything and have the officials from the prefecture take you down, I would still be credited for a great achievement. But unfortunately, at most I would only receive a hundred taels of silver, while all the benefits would fall into their pockets. I would gain nothing substantial and have no hope of promotion. If that's the case, rather than betray master Sun for a mere hundred taels, I would prefer to help master Sun for a greater profit."
Sun Man smiled and nodded, saying, "I indeed did not misjudge you. But I wonder how great the greater profit that Constable Zeng speaks of is?"
Zeng Liang brushed off some fallen leaves from his shoulder and replied, "Half!"
Sun Man's pupils narrowed, and the smile in his eyes deepened as he chuckled, "Haha, it seems Constable Zeng has quite the appetite."
Zeng Liang replied indifferently, "It's only because master Sun's appetite is too large; I cannot afford to be small. But I wonder what master Sun thinks?"
Suddenly, Zeng Liang's gaze sharpened like a sword, fixating on Sun Man's face. Sun Man's chubby face shifted with uncertainty before he finally nodded heavily and said, "Alright, we will do as you say. I agree."
Zeng Liang sighed in relief and said, "That's best; everyone stands to gain. Why not go for it?"
Sun Man interjected suddenly, " Constable Zeng is right; why not? But unfortunately, my agreement is not with you!"
Zeng Liang's expression tightened as he felt a chill at his back; a green blade had already pierced through his chest. He spun around abruptly to see Wang Long stepping back with a strange, cold smile on his face.
"You... I valued you so much. I never expected you would betray me..." Zeng Liang's eyes began to glaze over as his voice faltered. Wang Long stood at a safe distance and sneered, "I’m truly sorry, Constable Zeng! It's just that you're not the county magistrate. He can offer me what you cannot, and everyone has their own desires—you're not the only one."
Sun Man stood opposite them and said with a smile, "Zeng Liang, I could have worked with you. It's just that your greed was too great; Wang Long here is more practical—he simply wants your position."
"So it turns out... you two have been colluding together all along?" Zeng Liang's sweat poured down as he glared fiercely at both men. Sun Man replied with a grin, "Of course I had to place my own piece beside you to feel truly secure."
Sun Man's smile faded as he exchanged glances with Wang Long. With the green blade in hand, Wang Long took a step forward and lunged toward Zeng Liang’s chest. Exhausted from the fight, Zeng Liang barely managed to dodge to the left. His tiger-like eyes were bloodshot as he shouted, "Sun Man, I'll take you down with me!"
With that roar, Zeng Liang summoned all his strength and threw a punch forward with tremendous force aimed directly at Sun Man’s face!
Sun Man struck with a fierce punch, lightly tapping his left foot on his right, and his body soared through the air like a falling leaf above everyone’s heads.
As Zeng Liang looked up again, a chill ran through his chest; Wang Long's Azure Blade had completely pierced Zeng Liang's heart. With a cry of despair, Zeng Liang fell, unwilling to accept his fate.
Sun Man landed and said to Wang Long, “It seems you’ve forgotten someone.”
Wang Long sneered and flung the Azure Blade back. Li Changjiang, who was about to flee, was struck by the blade and fell dead on the spot.
Sun Man was very pleased. He approached Wang Long, patting him on the shoulder and said, “Very good! Seeing you like this reminds me of myself ten years ago. Haha! With your ruthless nature, in a few years, you could become the second Sun Man.”
Wang Long felt delighted and hurriedly bowed in respect, saying, “I will definitely go through fire and water for you, my lord. I won’t let you down…”
Wang Long had many grateful words in mind but had only spoken a couple when he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his shoulder. The figure before him began to sway, causing him to panic. He staggered back a few steps and looked at Sun Man’s hand that had just rested on his shoulder. “My lord, what… what have you done?”
Sun Man shook his head and smiled. “You spoke too soon with your gratitude. There’s something else I haven’t told you! You could indeed become the second Sun Man, but in Mou Shui City, one Sun Man is already enough. So it’s better for you to die.”
Sun Man waved his hand, revealing three Golden Needles that shimmered with a blinding light in the rain. He coldly declared, “The Golden Needle pierces through the veins; even gods cannot save you.”
Wang Long wanted to curse but as soon as he opened his mouth, a jet of blood erupted from him. Darkness enveloped his vision, and he could not utter another word.
In the distance, green mountains were shrouded in dark green clouds. Soon after, light rain began to fall again. Sun Man looked at the corpses strewn across the ground in the rain and shook his head slightly, saying, “In schemes within schemes and calculations within calculations, no matter how clever your minds are or how capable you are of becoming another Sun Man!”
