"Feifei, I heard from your mom that you had a cold and fever a couple of days ago. How are you feeling now? Are you better?" Liu Qiaofang asked, her eyes flickering as she watched Ye Fangfei brushing her teeth. 0

"Thank you for your concern, sister-in-law. I'm all better now," Ye Fangfei replied, spitting out the toothpaste. 0

"Feifei, I heard you're going on a blind date today. Is that true?" Liu Qiaofang lowered her voice again. 0

Wang Dazui also paused his laundry, his gaze fixed intently on Ye Fangfei. 0

Ye Fangfei frowned slightly. The thing she found most uncomfortable about staying in this shared courtyard for the past three days was the complete lack of privacy. She was used to the modern society where people went about their own business, and neighbors would just nod and greet each other when they crossed paths. 0

She found the small-town gossip in this courtyard particularly annoying, where everyone seemed to know everyone else's business. Not wanting to share more with Liu Qiaofang, she countered with a question, "Who told you that?" 0

Liu Qiaofang was taken aback by Ye Fangfei's question. Who else could it be? Of course, it was her older sister, Hao Chunying, who overheard it when she visited. But could she say that? Absolutely not. 0

She could only stammer, "I heard someone mention it casually." 0

"Oh." Ye Fangfei didn’t press further and turned back into the house. 0

In the kitchen, Hao Chunying had finished cooking. She had taken a day off specifically to accompany her daughter on the blind date. 0

"Feifei, come out for dinner!" Hao Chunying called. 0

"I'm coming, Mom! What are we having for breakfast today?" Ye Fangfei replied, trying to mimic her mother's tone. 0

"Well, what else could it be? It's the same as usual—cornmeal porridge and steamed corn buns," Hao Chunying quickly placed the porridge on the table. 0

On the table was a plate of steamed corn buns and a bowl of pickled mustard greens. 0

Ye Fangfei looked at the simple breakfast without complaint. In this day and age, having such a meal was already quite good. 0

This was thanks to the decent conditions of the Ye family; both Ye Jianguo and Hao Chunying worked full-time jobs, and they had fewer children. Moreover, Ye Jianguo was a skilled welder with a good salary. 0

This allowed them to have three meals a day without going hungry. Many families were not so fortunate; some even struggled to have enough to eat, let alone enjoy steamed corn buns. 0

After finishing half a bun and a bowl of porridge, Ye Fangfei set down her chopsticks. 0

Hao Chunying was still worried that she wouldn't have enough to eat, so she handed her another steamed bun. "Why are you only eating this little? Have another one." 0

"No, Mom, I'm full," Ye Fangfei quickly declined. 0

Although Ye Fangfei didn't mind the food here, she wasn't used to the slightly coarse fare of this era after being accustomed to the various delicacies of modern times. The grains were simply processed and couldn't compare to the finely refined foods of today. 0

For instance, the cornmeal she had just eaten was made by grinding whole corn kernels without removing the husks, unlike modern practices where only the corn itself is consumed. 0

However, Ye Fangfei didn't complain; it was just a matter of getting used to it. After a few more days, she would adapt. 0

Seeing that her daughter truly didn't want to eat anymore, Hao Chunying didn't press her but shifted the conversation instead. 0

"Feifei, your aunt has introduced you to a really good man. Although he comes from a rural background, he has talent. He served in the military and instead of returning home, he joined a transportation team in Beicheng as a driver. That shows either he is exceptionally capable or his leaders or comrades helped him transition into this job." 0

"Your aunt mentioned that many people in their team have their eyes on him. It's only because your aunt is his supervisor that we got this opportunity." 0

"Just make sure to present yourself well today, but don't rush things too much." 0
