The leader, I’ve calculated it. It’s only been a little over ten minutes, while others are still frowning and unsure of where to start. Ye Fangfei has identified the problem and calculated the correct answer.
In fact, the leaders had already noticed Ye Fangfei; it was hard not to, given how conspicuous she was among her peers. While others were scratching their heads in confusion, she sat there calmly. One hand flipped through the account books while the other deftly manipulated the abacus, quietly murmuring to herself. It was clear she was well-practiced.
After just ten minutes, Ye Fangfei raised her hand to announce that she had finished. A few people were surprised but also skeptical. Could Ye Fangfei really have completed it? How could anyone finish such a task in such a short time? Even the old accountant from the warehouse shook his head in disbelief. He couldn’t fathom that someone could uncover issues in the account books so quickly. After all, he had personally handled these accounts and knew their complexity.
Regardless of belief or skepticism, Ye Fangfei had completed her work, and whether it was correct could be verified by reviewing it. The leader gestured for someone to bring over the account books along with Ye Fangfei’s answers. The old accountant leaned in to take a look as well.
First, he examined the answer; without saying a word, it was indeed correct. Then he flipped through the account book, noting that Ye Fangfei had circled the problematic sections. The issue with this account book was that the purchase price had been recorded incorrectly due to carelessness, leading to discrepancies between the final purchase price and the income.
The old accountant glanced at the account book again and nodded at the leader. This indicated that Ye Fangfei’s work was completely accurate.
Seeing someone had finished, those remaining grew more anxious, with some hastily scribbling down random calculations. Since Ye Fangfei had completed her task, she decided not to linger any longer. She exchanged a brief nod with a few of the leaders before stepping out.
As Ye Fangfei left, some people chose to give up and followed her out. A few others persisted in fiddling with their abacus beads. However, none of that concerned Ye Fangfei anymore.
The final results would be announced three days later, and she headed straight home. After Ye Fangfei departed, the remaining individuals gradually finished their tasks and emerged one by one.
One by one, they hung their heads in disappointment, clearly having not performed well on the exam. Once all the examinees had left, several leaders inside reviewed everyone's answers.
In truth, they didn't fully understand the material either; to know if the answers were correct, they would have to consult the old accountant, after all, he was the one who had set the questions.
"Old Wang, how did they do? Were their answers correct?" asked Yao Jiwang, the manager of the cargo building.
Old Wang flipped through the ledger and shook his head. "These people clearly have no foundation at all; their calculations are all over the place."
"Director Gao, what do you think?" Yao Jiwang asked the supervising leader above.
"What is there to discuss? The results speak for themselves," Director Gao replied. "I think that female candidate is quite impressive. Not only did she finish first, but her answers were also correct."
"I noticed her hand movements while calculating; she seemed very skilled. She must be experienced," Director Gao added.
"Alright then, let's go with Director Gao's recommendation. What's her name?" Manager Yao asked Accountant Wang.
Accountant Wang flipped through the ledger and found the first page of the last entry where it was written: Ye Fangfei.
"Her name is Ye Fangfei," Accountant Wang said.
Manager Yao thought for a moment; he had never heard of this name before. This recruitment had not been publicly announced, so outsiders wouldn't know anything about it. "Who is this Ye Fangfei? Is she a relative of someone?"
