Ye Fangfei had fallen asleep, and after Wang Zhaodi and Zhang Man finished tidying up the kitchen, they decided to go chat with their sister-in-law, who was close to them. 0

The two of them arrived at the home of their sister-in-law, who had a good relationship with them. Several aunts and sisters-in-law were already there. When they saw the two of them coming together, they greeted them warmly. 0

"Zhaodi and Man, you’re here! Come on up to the kang; we have some sunflower seeds. Let’s chat for a bit," said their sister-in-law. 0

"Why did you come so late?" one of the aunts asked. 0

"We came over as soon as we finished cleaning up. We didn’t expect to be later than you," Wang Zhaodi replied with a smile. 0

"Isn’t Zhi here? Why didn’t he bring his wife along?" their sister-in-law inquired. 0

"Fangfei, my third brother's wife, was a bit tired and went to rest. We left without her," Zhang Man explained. 0

"So how is your third brother's wife? Is she easy to get along with? She comes from the big city; does she look down on us country folks?" someone asked curiously. 0

Everyone was eager to know the answer, and all eyes turned to the two women. 0

"Oh, sister-in-law, what are you saying? My third brother's wife is not like that at all. She graduated from high school; she’s educated and certainly not someone who looks down on others," Wang Zhaodi replied. 0

"Plus, she brought me and the eldest sister-in-law each a piece of fabric. The color of that fabric is beautiful! She also brought my mother-in-law a piece of corduroy. That corduroy is really thick; it’s perfect for making pants," Wang Zhaodi added with a smile. 0

After Wang Zhaodi finished speaking, Zhang Man chimed in, "And my third brother's wife bought the kids some shrimp candy. Do you know what shrimp candy is? It’s a specialty from Beijing. It’s not like the fruit candies we usually eat; it’s a crumbly candy that falls apart as soon as you bite into it." 0

The two of them proudly shared everything that Ye Fangfei had brought, making everyone else envious. 0

"So it sounds like Zhi’s family is really nice to you," their sister-in-law said. 0

"If that’s the case, then the third family is indeed good. Let me tell you, I have a nephew who married a city girl. That wife of his looks down on her in-laws. Not only does she refuse to come herself, but she also doesn’t even let my nephew visit." 0

"Don't even mention buying things for the house. They simply don't want to associate with the in-laws," one aunt remarked. 0

"Well, that's because they have jobs and the pride that comes with it," another aunt, who had a contentious relationship with the family, replied. 0

"But what about Tang Laosan's daughter-in-law? Doesn't she have a job? Shouldn't she treat you all a bit better?" an elderly lady chimed in. 0

Wang Zhaodi and Zhang Man were well aware of the tension between their families and wouldn't let such comments slide. After all, Ye Fangfei had just found a job, and it was a good one at the department store. 0

With that in mind, they felt more confident to retort. 0

"Who says my sister-in-law doesn’t have a job? She graduated from high school; finding a job isn't hard for her!" 0

"It’s not that she didn’t have a job before; she just thought the jobs available weren't good enough for her." 0

Besides, their family had plenty of workers and wasn’t short on money. 0

"And my sister-in-law does have a job now! She's working as an accountant at the Beijing Department Store." 0

"That's a great office job! Her salary alone is over thirty a month, not including various bonuses." 0

"Plus, the department store sometimes has slightly damaged items that don’t require receipts. As an insider, she gets priority to buy those." 0

Zhang Man launched into her defense with fervor, leaving the aunt speechless. 0
