Pei Zhirui poured a cup of tea for her and gently handed it over, speaking softly. "Please bear with me for a while. Once we enter the residence, if Yan'er is able to bear our child, I will certainly petition Father to make you the legitimate wife. How does that sound?"
Gu Yanran's voice suddenly rose in pitch. "But I am the legitimate daughter of the Gu family! Why should I settle for being a consort?"
"Yan'er, you must understand that I currently lack the strength to confront Father," Pei Zhirui's tone grew firm. "I promise you, once you enter the residence, I will ensure you are satisfied with your position."
"I don't believe you!" Gu Yanran stood up abruptly. "You are nothing but a liar! Everything you said before was just deceit!"
"Yan'er, please don’t be so agitated." Pei Zhirui also rose to his feet. "I know you feel wronged, but right now we can only endure for a while longer."
"I can't endure any longer!" Tears streamed down Gu Yanran's face. "Why should I endure? I am the legitimate daughter of the Gu family; I have my own pride!"
"Yan'er, calm down." Pei Zhirui's voice carried a hint of helplessness. "We still lack the power to oppose Father; we can only bide our time for now. If we wait patiently, there will come a day when I will make you the rightful consort."
"Really?" Gu Yanran's voice was filled with disbelief as she sought Pei Zhirui's confirmation once more.
"Do you still not trust me? When have I ever let you down?" Pei Zhirui coaxed her gently.
"As long as I can be with you, it doesn't matter what position I hold," Gu Yanran said as she moved behind him, her hands slipping around his neck, gently caressing his throat as she spoke tenderly.
Pei Zhirui grasped one of her hands and pulled her into his embrace.
"Your Highness," Gu Yanran gazed deeply into Pei Zhirui's eyes, calling out to him with warmth and affection.
Looking at the woman in his arms, who radiated tenderness, Pei Zhirui slowly lowered his head and captured her enticing lips, teasingly parting them to savor her sweetness.
Gu Yanran melted into him like a puddle of soft affection, languishing in Pei Zhirui’s embrace.
"Your Highness…"
Just as their lips intertwined, Gu Yanran suddenly stiffened and grasped Pei Zhirui's hands, her voice hoarse as she whispered, "Your Highness, we can't."
Pei Zhirui did not stop; he bit down hard on Gu Yanran's shoulder, leaving two prominent bite marks before he relented.
At that moment, Gu Yanran's face flushed a deep shade of pink. With the makeup accentuating her beauty, she resembled a blooming flower bud—so alluring that one couldn't help but want to take a bite.
"Yan'er, you are so beautiful!"
Pei Zhirui, who had been tense all over, reluctantly halted and locked eyes with Gu Yanran in his arms, his gaze filled with deep affection.
"I truly wish I could marry you immediately and cherish you every day."
Gu Yanran lay obediently in Pei Zhirui's arms, her voice hoarse yet filled with deep affection as she confessed, "Your Highness, I also hope to marry you soon and bear you a son or daughter."
Pei Zhirui gently stroked Gu Yanran's long hair, his tone laced with tenderness and a hint of sorrow. "Yanran, I will definitely marry you."
A determined light flickered in Gu Yanran's eyes; she believed that Pei Zhirui would give her a rightful place, a name that belonged to her.
Pei Zhirui held Gu Yanran tightly, whispering, "Yanran, I will make you happy."
Gu Yanran nodded, her eyes brimming with love and anticipation. When the time came, not only would she have Gu Qingning call her "Sister-in-law," but she would also make her kneel at her feet, shouting "Long live!" in reverence.
