Watching the man replace the chopsticks in her hand with a spoon, Gu Qingning was momentarily stunned, a warm current coursing through her heart and filling her completely.
Pei Zhiqing had been bedridden for years, taking countless medicines. The imperial physician had prescribed various medicinal dishes to help restore his health.
When one is too hungry, it is easy to choke, especially since she had gone a whole day without food, and her stomach could not handle such a sudden onslaught.
Gu Qingning hadn’t expected him to be so considerate. Not knowing what to say, she could only grasp the spoon and feed herself porridge, bite by bite.
Typically seen as a proud and cold man, Pei Zhiqing now looked tenderly at the woman before him, dressed in a flowing red silk nightgown that revealed a large expanse of her snow-white skin at the neckline.
A ripple of something different passed through his dark eyes.
Gu Qingning was already fair and beautiful, and in that red silk nightgown, her curves were accentuated, subtly visible, with a delicate waist that could be grasped with one hand.
The man’s ink-black eyes shimmered again, lingering on her for a long time.
He held her hand gently and helped her lie back on the large red bed. Their gazes locked in an intense exchange.
At that moment, Gu Qingning’s mind went blank!
Pei Zhiqing's fingers lightly traced the tear mole beneath her eye. Her long eyelashes trembled slightly under his touch like butterfly wings, graceful and alluring.
"From today onward, you are my wife," he said in a deep, hoarse voice.
Gu Qingning looked helplessly at the man before her, radiating heat. She felt an indescribable mix of nervousness and shyness wash over her, leaving her completely frozen.
She had thought that marrying him was merely a transaction.
Lying on the bed, she recalled the day at the Duke of Qi's residence when he had held her hand tightly and hadn’t let go.
And that time he had draped his cloak over her shoulders...
Was this what it felt like to be moved?
Images flashed through Gu Qingning's mind as she silently questioned herself.
Suddenly, the man lying opposite her turned over quickly, startling Gu Qingning out of her reverie.
Coming back to reality, she raised her eyes to meet his gaze and swallowed hard before whispering shyly, "Be gentle; I’m afraid it will hurt."
Bang!
The last taut string in Pei Zhiqing’s mind snapped at her invitation, collapsing in an instant.
"Don't be afraid, I'll be gentle."
He took a deep breath, his dark eyes swirling with intensity. With a tender hand, he brushed aside the strands of hair from her forehead and carefully placed a kiss there, treating it like a precious treasure.
Concerned that she might be frightened by his touch, he leaned closer to her ear and whispered softly, "Are you ready?"
Gu Qingning felt her entire body stiffen, her lips pressed tightly together as she shyly nodded.
His warm, husky voice brushed against her ear, sending a tingling sensation through her heart that was both uncomfortable and exhilarating. After all, this moment was inevitable, so Gu Qingning closed her eyes.
Watching her flutter her eyelashes, Pei Zhiqing leaned down to kiss her forehead, then her cheeks, and finally the bridge of her nose, gently prying open her tightly sealed lips.
The excitement stirred within her, causing Gu Qingning to respond to him shyly and stiffly, her hands wrapping around his back in an embrace.
Bathed in the warm glow of the red candlelight, their intertwined shadows danced across the walls, entwined in a tender and lingering embrace.
At the peak of their union, Gu Qingning furrowed her brow slightly, biting down on her lips as tremors coursed through her body. She dared not make a sound and clutched the edge of the bed tightly.
"Don't bite yourself."
He kissed her lips again, beads of sweat dripping from his chest onto her body—warm and slightly sticky—making her squirm uncomfortably as she instinctively responded to him.
Unbeknownst to them, the moonlight had emerged from behind the clouds, casting its glow through the window and illuminating the scattered clothes on the floor. The room was filled with a haze of red silk drapery that created an ethereal atmosphere.
