Seeing Pei Zhiqing lean closer, Gu Qingning's mind went blank, and she instinctively shifted away, creating some distance between them.
"What's wrong? Afraid I might eat you?" Pei Zhiqing teased with a smirk.

As she ascended the steps, her mind wandering, Gu Qingning accidentally twisted her ankle and cried out in pain.
Seeing this, Pei Zhiqing did not hesitate for a moment. He bent slightly, one hand securely supporting her waist while the other slipped under her knee, lifting her effortlessly into his arms.
"I can still walk; put me down," Gu Qingning said, her face flushing with embarrassment.
With so many people watching, she felt shy.
"Don't be stubborn," Pei Zhiqing frowned, refusing to let her go.
Along the way, the servants of the Wang residence fell silent and bowed respectfully, not daring to look up.
Shyly, Gu Qingning buried her head into Pei Zhiqing's shoulder, too embarrassed to meet anyone's gaze.
Pei Zhiqing carried her all the way back to the courtyard and gently placed her on the bed. He removed her shoes and examined her ankle, lightly massaging it.
Raising his head, he glanced at Gu Qingning and straightened slightly as she winced in pain again.
"This is just a minor issue," Pei Zhiqing said dismissively. "Try moving your foot; see if it still hurts."
Before he could finish speaking, he suddenly fainted.
Gu Qingning only noticed a shadow collapsing beside her unexpectedly.
"Pei Zhiqing, you—"
It dawned on her that he hadn’t used a wheelchair since yesterday and had been walking independently all along. His body was still unable to endure prolonged standing or walking.
She realized it was her oversight that had led to this situation.
