"I've decided to take you as part of my harem..."
Wen Changqing's words echoed in Lin Chen's mind for several days, leaving him restless and unable to sleep. He had never felt this anxious, even when he was overwhelmed with work and couldn't finish his sketches.
Irritated, he got out of bed and raked his fingers through his hair in frustration. As a manga editor, it was impossible to feign ignorance about the term "harem."
In modern anime harems, the female characters may not necessarily like the male protagonist, but they must all appear around him, inevitably creating an atmosphere of ambiguity... "Hey, why are you so scared? I'm not going to eat you," Wen Changqing thought to herself: although it would be tempting.
"Uh, no, I was just thinking that Teacher Wen has been progressing quite quickly lately. The assistants can't keep up with adding the screen tones and outlines; you've already finished the second half of the manuscript," Lin Chen said, desperately trying to find a topic to ease the tension.
"Is that bad?" Wen Changqing raised an eyebrow.
"Of course not! The Editor-in-Chief must be very pleased."
Lin Chen silently added in his mind: nothing could please him more than being able to walk back to the Editorial Department with his head held high! He had heard that Teacher Chitian had started delaying submissions again, and the Editorial Department was once again witnessing the daily shouting matches between Sister Wan Tong and the Editor-in-Chief.
In charge of the Editorial Department, his main "target" was Wen Changqing. If the manuscript wasn't completed on time, he could only imagine how the Editor-in-Chief would berate him to the point where he might want to dig a hole and bury himself. Asking him to curse out the Editor-in-Chief like Sister Wan Tong would probably result in him being scolded to death before he even opened his mouth. Sigh...
It had been nearly a month since he became Wen Changqing's editor, and Lin Chen gradually realized that Wen Changqing was an exceptionally beautiful woman. Although she often looked disheveled when working on her drafts, her features were exquisite. Wen Changqing's studio was simple; near the windowsill stood a large separate bookshelf filled with various comics, all of which were her published volumes. Next to it were several comic books that Lin Chen had never seen before. He thought that since he was going to be Wen Changqing's editor, he should first familiarize himself with the works of the comic artist.
At first, he casually pulled out a few books to look at but was stunned by the title on one with a blue cover. He asked incredulously, " teacher Wen, is this...?"
"Ah, are you talking about that comic? It's my debut work, but I later changed my pen name since the genres are different," she replied. Noticing Lin Chen's serious expression, she couldn't help but ask curiously, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing." A surge of excitement nearly escaped his lips but got stuck in his throat. His hands trembled slightly as he tried to compose himself. However, within half a minute, Wen Changqing threw out a completely outrageous comment.
"Don't be silly! I don't have any adult books in my collection! If you want to see some, I can ask Xiao Mei if she has any 18+ fan works hidden in the studio." She winked playfully, wearing an expression that seemed to say "We're all adults here."
"No need, thank you!" Lin Chen almost choked on his words. What a morally corrupt comic artist!
There was a bookstore along his usual route that he often overlooked. For some reason, one day the setting sun cast its warm glow on the display outside the store, and a comic with a cover as blue as the sky caught his eye.
